The article is a tribute to Prof. Andrzej Grzegorczyk, the Polish mathematician, philosopher, and writer. His philosophy is based on formal logic and some elements of Christian philosophy, which made his thought original and inspiring, both for those interested in formal analyses and mathematics, and for those who deal with psychology, ethics, and religion. The main ideas in his philosophy are responsibility, courage, and challenge. He claims that the principal moral values have to do with responsibility for one’s thoughts, speech, and actions, and being honest with oneself, productive to society, and intellectually and morally courageous. The presence of evil makes every human life a challenge that consists of combating evil with goodness. Grzegorczyk offers an analytic description of moral guidelines; he claims that reason can be helpful for the ethical treatment of others, for good communications with them and for spreading tolerance.
