In theatrology, the 1960s are usually labelled as one of the most prolific periods of Slovak theatre-making. After a uniform decade, in most part of which drama artists had to act under the prism of socialist realism, came a period of qualitative growth. This study brings a perspective on the dramaturgy of the drama ensemble of the Slovak National Theatre through the career of the budding actor Štefan Kvietik (1934). Although this artist has been one of the key actors in our history, theatrology has not paid attention to his theatrical career. This paper aims to capture the change in theatrical optics through selected creations of Kvietik and point out the impact of the dramaturgical liberty of the 1960s on the genesis of Slovak acting.
