Glow-discharge assisted treatments utilize both the nitriding and carbonitriding processes and also the PACVD technique. All these processes permit producing antiabrasive and anticorrosive layers, that show a high fatigue strength. The glow discharge assisted techniques are still being further developed, by e.g. producing the multicomponent layers on the tried parts by combined methods. The present paper presents the results of metallographic, phase composition and corrosion resistance examination of surface layer produced on Armco iron using glow-discharge nitriding and oxidizing processes combined in a single technological operation. The results show that produced multicomponent layers have good corrosion resistance. These processes create the basis for widening the application range of glow-discharge treatments.
The work presents results of studies of intermetallic compound based Fe-40Al alloy after primary crystallization. Chemical composition of the alloy was established through many year's experiences. Possibilities and limitations of the obtained material's plastic working were of especial interest. Course of crystallization in casting mould was also analysed.
