Maintenance of stocks in companies at an optimal level of effort has been since time immemorial. In the distant past businesses had to deal with the problem without any computer support which – in the present time – is indispensable. Inventory models for calculating optimal order quantities and reorder points have been in existence for a long time. Henry Ford was already aware of the degradation of financial resources bound in inventories and tried to answer key questions, i.e. When? and How much? Long before such systems as JIT, TOC and MRP were introduced, companies had been using other tools to manage their production and inventory.

This paper proposes the application of the Analytic Hierarchy Process method to support decision making regarding the selection of an Enterprise Resource Planning system in a manufacturing company. The main assumption of the work is that the management of the selection of an ERP system should consider that the most important selection criteria are concerned with the functionality of the ERP system. Besides this, the aspects of total cost of ownership, technical support and implementation time or vendor experience are taken into consideration to guarantee a successful ERP implementation. The proposed procedure of an ERP system selection is dedicated for small and medium manufacturing enterprises. A structure of attributes for the AHP method is proposed on the basis of an analysis and identification of critical success factors. Different kinds of production (make-to-stock, make-to-order and engineer-to-order are taken into consideration). Illustrative examples are also given.

This paper proposes the application of computer simulation methods in order to analyse the availability of resources, buffers and the impact of the allocation of workers on the throughput and work-in-progress of a manufacturing system. The simulation model of the production system is based on an existing example of a manufacturing company in the automotive industry. The manufacturing system includes both machining and assembly operations. Simulation experiments were conducted vis-`a-vis the availability of the different manufacturing resources, the various allocations of buffer capacities and the number of employees. The production system consists of three manufacturing cells – each cell including two CNC machines – and two assembly stations. The parts produced by the manufacturing cells are stored in buffers and transferred to the assembly stations. Workers are allocated to the manufacturing cells and assembly stations, but the number of workers may be less than number of workplaces and are thus termed ‘multi-workstations’. Using computer simulation methods, the impact of the availability of resources, the number of employees and of the allocation of buffer capacity on the throughput and work-in-progress of the manufacturing system is analysed. The results of the research are used to improve the effectiveness of manufacturing systems using a decision support system and the proper control of resources. Literature analysis shows that the study of the impact of buffer capacities, availability of resources and the number of employees on assembly manufacturing system performance have not been carried out so far.

Business process mapping refers to activities involved in defining exactly what a business entity does, who is responsible, to what standard a process should be completed and how the success of a business process can be determined. Once this is done, there can be no uncertainty as to the requirements of every internal business process. A business process illustration is produced. The first step in gaining control over an organization is to know and understand the basic processes.

Constantly increasing demands for experimental modeling of engineering processes across the board helps fill a very powerful computer. Despite this fact, it is extremely important to find and verify the mathematical model, which actually corresponds to reality. This allows you to perform difficult analysis of observed values observed phenomenon. By this purpose, we need to design methodologies for modeling which is the aim of presented article.

The values of each character as they are often the results of measurements in different units, and it can cause that some characters seem to be dominating a few other characters influenced the course of cluster analysis. The methods of cluster analysis based on the quantitative expression similarity relations, it would not work with data-dependent unit of measurement. Therefore, it is appropriate to transfer their characters to standardization or normalization.

A materials management company provides a comprehensive system for ensuring the procurement of inputs into the production process, efficient movement, handling and storage of material input into the company through transition to production to distribution of finished products to customers. Materials management also involves the important activities of preparation for production and standardization, while the correct choice of the material for a product, real norms of consumption, efficient standard and quality of material already begins at the stage of preparing production conditions of technically correct and economically efficient supply.

The paper deals with a brief description of the development of PLM systems, description of their activities, usability and ways of handling materials in the production unit. There are many ways of material handling. We will focus on sample transport simulations using carts in the production, handling robots for transshipment and the use of conveyors. Samples are shown in 2D and 3D form in Plant Simulation software module.

The paper presents the results of simulation research on buffer space allo-cated in a flow line and operation times influence on the throughput of a manufacturing system. The production line in the study consists of four stages and is based on a real machining manufacturing system of a small production enterprise. Using Tecnomatix Plant Simulation software, a simulation model of the system was created and set of experiments was planned. Simulation experiments were prepared for different capacities of intermediate buffers located between manufacturing resources and op-eration times as input parameters, and the throughput per hour and aver-age life span of products as the output.

Municipal waste stream is processed at Koksov-Baksa (Slovakia) chem. complex by mech. sepn. and combustion. After numerical simulation, the process parameters were changed and combustion of waste was limited. This way, some addnl. amts. of secondary raw materials (plastics, electro waste, metals) were recovered.

Our paper deals with the possibility of replacing galvanic chrome coatings with thermal spraying, specifically with the high-velocity oxy-fuel coating spraying (HVOF) method. The article provides an analysis of alternatives compensation, mutual comparison of thermal spraying methods, and the choice of the most appropriate method for replacing galvanic chrome plating. Increased pressure on health and the environment necessitates the replacement of conventional galvanic plating process solution with hexavalent chromium Cr6+ by using environmentally friendly technology.
