At the ICRI, a polycarbonate technology has been developed based on polycondensation of bisphenol A and phosgene in a two-phase system by using a continuous process. The technology developed is still characterized by modernity and originality of the continuous synthesis step, but in view of current knowledge the stages of polymer separation, sevage treatment, extrusion moulding and granulation need to be modernized. Recently, the important stage of polymer separation and sewage treatment was modernized by using the pervaporation technique. Studies on new methods of polycarbonate synthesis are conducted in two directions. First, there is polycondensation of polycarbonate oligomers in the solid state. A very big increase, considerably exceeding exploitation needs, in the polymer molecular weight was achieved.
