Exfoliated graphite (EG) produced on an industrial scale found a new application such as a sorbent for the removal of heavy oils from water. Some investigations of the oil sorption on EG were performed with very satisfactory results. In this paper two methods of EG preparations will be discussed to consider the quality of the obtained product for an oil sorbent application and the influence the way of EG production on the environment.

The mutual solubility of KHCO3 and NH4HCO3 in water have been determined between 293 K and 323 K. On the basis of these results a polytherm section (in mole per 1000 g H2O) for the KHCO3+ NH4HCO3+ H2O system has been drawn. These data are essential for the assessment of a new, non - waste production method of potassium carbonate.

Investigation was carried out on the optimization conditions of the synthesis of KVO3 and Cl2 from KC1 and V2O5 in the presence of atmospheric oxygen. The research was performed in temperature range 673 - 873 K, for 1 to 7 hours time duration. These data are essential for the evaluation of a new, non - waste production method of potassium carbonate.
