The situation in the Middle East and over sixty-year conflict there show a vivid example of superpowers’ interests clash in one of the most strategic regions of the world. It is the biggest source of mistrust between the West and Arab world. Taking into account the will to present the problems in a clear and comprehensible way, the article first features the sources of conflict and then concentrates on possible scenarios of further actions that a current state of international relations allows. Moreover, attention is drawn to several propositions of possible conflict resolutions presented by representatives of Nordic states’ political environment that for years have been actively participating in the Middle East peace process.

The development of events in the second half of the 20th century and beginning of the 21st century was accompanied by scientific and technical progress on an unprecedented scale in the history of humanity. The dynamics of communities’ transformation both in the social and cultural aspects occurred at cruising speed. Far reaching economic changes took place particularly at the turn of the century. Scientific and technical progress, industrialisation, dynamic development of trade and new forms of communication contributed to the tightening of international cooperation. Globalisation has exerted a great influence on changes that actually took place in every walk of life. In publications concerning globalisation published so far, there has been mainly discussed the analysis of its influence upon the course of economic, technological, financial and social processes. The author of the article tried to define the relation between globalisation and security in both global and regional scales and show its positive aspects as well as threats. Moreover, apart from a retrospective approach to the subject matter, the author tried to answer the following questions: in what range globalisation influences security and how technological progress affects security in the time of globalisation.

The author of the article in a synthetic way describes 350-year old history of the most elite and recognizable regiment of the Danish Army. Since its beginnings, the Royal Guard has been closely connected with the monarchy, its traditions, and in spite of the time passed and changes taking place in contemporary world, it has been a guarantee of the independent Danish state for centuries. According to the author, the Royal Guards is not only a military unit but also a kind of social phenomenon connecting both educational and patriotic elements. Characteristic bearskin of soldiers taking guard at the most representative landmarks of Copenhagen contributes to their recognition among both local residents and tourists. Watching the guards’ colourful uniforms, it is hard to believe that these soldiers serve a role of a front line combat unit who might be seen in Iraq or Afghanistan. Soldiers belonging to former Guards associations, both in Denmark and spread all over the world, are a perfect example of positive impact of the Armed Forces from behind their structures on the society. The article also features valuable remarks on the structure of the conscription binding in the Danish Defence.
