To navigate reliably in indoor environments, a mobile robot must know where it is. This paper is concerned with the design of a monocular vision-based algorithm for on-line estimation of a mobile robot’s location using circular markers. The algorithm is based on 3-D analytic geometry, which is capable of estimating both the orientation and the position of the camera by a single camera image. The method can be used for camerarobot calibration for eye-on-hand systems, and autonomous mobile robot guidance. Laboratory experiments using a moving cylindrical object demonstrate both the accuracy and stability of the method.

Robot mobilny, aby wiarygodnie nawigować we wnętrzu, musi znać swoje położenie. Opracowanie, w celu oszacowania bieżącego położenia robota, koncentruje się na projekcie algorytmu opartego o obraz jedno-okularowy, z zastosowaniem markerów kołowych. Algorytm przeprowadza analizę w geometrii 3D, co umożliwia oszacowanie zarówno orientacji jak i położenia kamery na podstawie danych obrazu z jednej kamery. Metoda może być zastosowana do kalibracji robota-kamery w systemie oko-ręka i do sterowania autonomicznym robotem mobilnym. Zademonstrowano eksperymenty laboratoryjne z wykorzystaniem obiektu cylindrycznego, analizując zarówno dokładność jak i stabilność metody.

The objective of this study was to describe laparoscopic-assisted colopexy (LAC) technique, and compare the extent of the surgical trauma after LAC and open colopexy (OC) by examing postoperative serum values of C-reactive protein (CRP) in dogs. Twelve healthy mixed-breed dogs with body weight ranging from 15 to 25 kg were used. Two portal sites were used for LAC procedures. OC was performed by laparotomy on linea alba. Colopexy was accomplished in all dogs without major intraoperative and postoperative complications. A permanent adhesion between the colon and abdominal wall was observed. There were statistically significant differences in serum CRP levels between LAC and OC immediately after the procedure and 1 d post operation. LAC had a similar pexy effect to OC, but had fewer surgical trauma than OC in dogs.

The microstructure of vapour grown carbon fibres is two-double layered. This paper addresses the question of morphology transformation of vapour grown carbon fibres. Special attention is given to developing understanding of the growth mechanism of the outer layer of the fibres. The influence of growth time on the morphologies of as-prepared carbon fibres was investigated using scanning electron microscopy. Results showed that with the prolongation of reaction time, their morphology changed from linear fibres to carbon micro-bead chains and then again to thicker linear fibres, which led to the increase of the carbon fibres diameters from 200 nm to several micrometers. Furthermore, several kinds of carbon fibres with special morphology such as carbon micro-beads, chains, etc., could be obtained by adjusting the growth time. A growth mechanism, henceforth referred to as fibre-bead-thicker fibre, for the outer layer of vapour grown carbon fibres is proposed.
