This paper provides an analysis of Polish translation equivalents of Croatian preposition unatoč. Based on the corpus of modern Croatian prose translated into Polish we establish that unatoč can be translated by secondary prepositions mimo, względem, pomimo, na przekór, collocation nie zwracając uwagi na, and concessive clause introduced by the conjunction choć, chociaż. The main equivalent — mimo was established on the basis of frequency and semantic features.

U ovom se članku vrši analiza poljskih prijevodnih ekvivalenata hrvatskog prijedloga unatoč. Oslanajući se na korpus hrvatske suvremene proze injenih poljskih prijevoda zaključujemo da prijedlog unatoč može biti preveden četirima sekundarnim prijedlozima mimo, względem, pomimo, na przekór, kolokacijom nie zwracając uwagi na i adverbijalnom dopusnom rečenicom uvedenom veznicima choć, chociaż. Glavni ekvivalent: mimo je utvrđen na temelju čestoće isemantičnih osobina.

The article includes analysis of sentences with possessive dative in Croatian and their Polish equivalents, investigating the similarities and differences of uses of those linguistic elements. I point out especially such factors as semantics of the possessum noun and verbs which connect possessor with possessum. Ialso note some differences on the stylistic level.

This paper focuses on the conception of the sphere of infl uence and its usage in research of dative case in the cognitive semantics frame. Taking as an example such authors as: Anna Wierzbicka, Ricardo Maldonado, Laura Janda, Brygida Rudzka-Ostyn and Ewa Dąbrowska, the difference in understanding and usage of this conception has been shown, from very narrow, which contains only minor of dative uses, to very wide, which shows the essence of all non-allative uses.

Croatian preposition prema in the spatial domain and its Polish translation equivalents This paper is an attempt to determine Polish translation equivalents of the Croatian preposition prema (towards) in the spatial domain. The corpus has been collected from pieces of modern Croatian prose translated into Polish. We enumerate Polish equivalents and focus on the most frequent: w stronę + gen., do + gen., na + acc. and ku + dat., by analyzing usage context of prepositions.

Hrvatski prijedlog prema u domeni fizičkog prostora i njihovi poljski prijevodni ekvivalenti Članak je pokušaj utvrđivanja poljskih prijevodnih ekvivalenata hrvatskog prijedloga prema u domeni fizičkog prostora. Materijal se osniva na paralelnom korpusu koji se sastoji od hrvatskih suvremenih književnih djela i njihovih poljskih prijevoda. U slučaju najučestalijih ekvivalenata: w stronę + gen., do + gen., na + acc. i ku + dat. dodatno se određuje konkurentnost kroz istraživanje njihova značenja i konteksta uporabe.

In the paper we investigate the semantics of possessum in dative external constructions in two related languages: Croatian and Polish. On the basis of the language corpuses we distinguish semantic groups of possessum, and then identify similarities and differences that occur between them, in view of their meaning and frequencies. Most of the similarities are noted in the group of body parts and inanimate objects or artifacts, and the biggest difference is in the kinship terms, which are numerous in the Croatian language but not in Polish.
