A discrete system performing transport tasks (carriage of goods between the starting and ending points) using the vehicles of limited capacity and reliability is analyzed. The quality of transport tasks depend on the availability of transportation means (cars, roads, etc.), their functional properties (services) and reliability (faults and renewals) and of the system organization (dispatchers / system managers). Unfriendly system events affecting the realization of transport tasks are classified. A dependability model of the discrete transport system is considered as an unreliable service network. Outlined the idea of a maintenance policy system and a problem of synthesis of the discrete transport system.

The paper reports on some experiments with implementing median or other rank--order digital image filters using field programmable devices. It demonstrates that a single field programmable device bay be used to build a median filter. The performance delivered using a Xilinx XC4000E-1 device exceeded 35 million pixels per second, when filtering within a 3×3 pixels window using 8-bit pixel representation. These results were obtained using autosynthesis, avoiding any direct manipulation in the design.

Computer systems and networks are considered as a union of all their resources (hardware, software and personnel), essential for the realization of predicted tasks. The systems operate in a real environment, often hostile, which may be the source of such threats as attacks, viruses and human faults. Model of a computer network is proposed on the basis of information balance at nodes and in the entire network. It is used to evaluate the maintenance policy of the network.
