One of the leitmotifs of Kroniki tygodniowe (1927–1929) by Antoni Słonimski was a criticism of military ambitions of the European powers and the war propaganda. The writer confronted them with two ideas: pacifism and progress. Their conjunction defined the discursive frame comprising the main objectives of his journalistic writing torn between the belief about the crisis which the era suffered and belief that this is the transition state, a short stage on the way of shaping the society of tomorrow. The key to adjust these two orders were the concepts by H.G. Wells, in particular the metaphor taken from his writing of “the age of great confusion”.

Recenzja omawia edycję „Notatników” Aleksandra Wata w opracowaniu Adama Dziadka i Jana Zielińskiego. Książka została przygotowana w oparciu o metody badawcze wypracowane na gruncie krytyki genetycznej, dzięki czemu wyeksponowany został procesualny charakter zapisków autora.

The review analyses the edition of Aleksander Wat’s “Notatniki (Notes)” edited by Adam Dziadek and Jan Zieliński. The book was prepared on the basis of research methods developed on the ground of genetic criticism, which displays the working process character of the author’s record.

Międzywojenna publicystyka filmowa Anatola Sterna pozwala prześledzić, jak kształtowała się świadomość twórcy działającego w sferze nowoczesnej „kultury przemysłowej” (określenie Harra Segeberga). Autor opisuje konsekwencje przejścia z pola literatury do branży kinematograficznej oraz ambiwalencję, jaka towarzyszyła twórcy, który przeistaczał się z pisarza obdarzonego autorytetem społecznym w „dostawcę tekstów”. Pokazuje również, w jaki sposób funkcjonowanie w ramach instytucji literatury wpłynęło na jego sposób myślenia o związkach literatury i filmu, istocie twórczości scenopisarskiej oraz prawach autorskich.

Anatol Stern’s interwar film journalism makes it possible to trace how the consciousness of the artist working in the sphere of modern “industrial culture” was shaped (Harro Segeberg’s term). The author describes the consequences of the transition from the field of literature to the cinematographic industry and the ambivalence that accompanied the artist who transformed himself from a writer with social authority to a “provider of texts”. The author also shows how Stern’s functioning within a literary institution influenced his way of thinking about the relationships between literature and film, the essence of writing and about copyright.

Publikowane tu dwa listy pisarki i publicystki Jolanty Fuchsówny (1899–1944) skierowane w 1935 roku do Jana Brzękowskiego znajdują się w zespole archiwalnym korespondencji poety w Bibliotece Polskiej w Paryżu. Istotną częścią opracowania jest próba rekonstrukcji życiorysu Fuchsówny.

Published here are two letters by a woman writer and publicist Jolanta Fuchsówna (1899–1944) from the year 1935 to Jan Brzękowski, which are found in the archive unit of the poet’s correspondence of The Polish Library in Paris. The essential part of the study is an attempt to reconstruct Fuchsówna’s biography.
