Relevance of space and territory for the social world and ethnic and national groups is discussed in this article. The analysis of the meaning of the terms 'territory' and 'space' (social and natural) in various social sciences, such as: sociology, psychology, sociobiology (resp. evolutionary psychology), human geography and cultural anthropology is undertaken by the author. The author also analyses the akin categories in these sciences (such as: aggression, violence, border, territorialism, behaviour setting, ecosystem, social and personal distance), which are used to create theories of social space and human behaviour. The fenomenological and anthropological analysis of the category 'territory' constitutes a considerable part of the text. A conception of the theoretical framework of the term 'ontological residuum' in social sciences is also presented in the article (according to - for example - the theory of culture by Antonina Kloskowska). The intention of the author is to concentrate mainly on the ethnic and national sense of the categories under discussion. Therefore the concept of the ethnic constructions on the base of a territory is also presented in the text.

The article presents a conception of the theoretical framework of the term 'discourse' in sociology exemplified by the sociology of nationality. The conception was defined explicitly and verified in the research concerning regional and national identity of inhabitants of Silesia. The intention of the author is to concentrate mainly on public discourse, which does not exclude the analysis of the importance of the ordinary conversations for forming discourse as such. Subjects of public discourse as well as the matter of discourse analysis are characterized with special attention paid to their mutual relationships and preferred research methods. The author makes use of the achievements of the science of communication and linguistics, especially text linguistics. Discourse consists of a net of keystones that interact and strengthen each other. Understood in that way it is given a historical dimension through the introduction of the category of 'trajectory'. Due to the fact that the structure of discourse (a net of keystones) corresponds to the structure of social memory of senders and receivers, some keystones refer to the resources of cultural, social, scientific and symbolic capital of the social world. On the basis of discourse social identity is formed and, to some extent, new identity is created as well. The conception presented above is analyzed and exemplified by the formation of regional and national identity of the inhabitants of Silesia.

Pornography has become an important social and political issue. The emphasis on pornography as a form of sexual and gender diversity is a component of larger societal and cultural trend - globalisation. The aim of the paper is to present and prove the thesis, that Internet pornography is nowadays a good mirror of deep social processes and structrures (suppressed fears, complexes, needs, changes of identity and forms of power, esp. biopower). The first part includes the recapitulation of the methodology of sociological research of pornography (esp. visual anthropology, discourse analysis). The author shows, how important are implications of Polish laws for research on Internet pornography in Poland (there are no international laws regulating Internet pornography). He also proposes new definition of pornography. Global pornography is in the dialectic relation with social institutions. It sexualizes social practices, which people try to desexualize in everyday life to avoid allegations of sexual misconduct (eg. health care practitioners). Hence, existence of pornography causes reaction of the social system, which generates new taboos (eg. nakedness of children) and forms of social control. But also pornography transgresses social norms and visions. The second part of the article includes three case studies: the BDSM pornography, the medical fetishism as a form of biopower and a problem of 'pedophilization' of visual representations in public sphere.
