In consequence of intensification of sheep breeding, an important question, both theoretically and practically, has become the problem of natural immunity of these animals to infectious diseases. Therefore, it seems purposeful to investigate various aspects of the defence system of organism, i.e. its immune reactivity in different physiological states and under the influence of external stimuli. One of the methods used for determination of the immunity state is in vitro examination of the immune indices to which, among other things, belong: complement, bactericidal activity of serum, phagocytosis, and antibodies. As yet, the studies dealing with natural immunity of sheep are relatively rare. No investigations on the bactericidal properties of sheep serum and influence of viral infection on the activity of defence systems of these animals, were found. The purpose of the presented investigations was to study the development of some immune parameters in sheep from birth to the 6th month of life, and the influence of pregnancy, season of the year, and infection with rabies virus on the activity of these parameters.

Iron, copper and cobalt belong to the group of elements necessary for living organisms, A metabolic relationship between these elements has been found (1, 2, 6, 11, M, 15, 16), Using the radiologic methods it has been proved that copper is necessary for assimilation, binding and storing of iron in the organism. Vitamin B₁₂ constituting a functional form of cobalt in the metabolism, causes quick transition of iron stored into hemoglobin or erythrocytes, thus accelerating their ripening, The presence of iron in the alimentary tract exerts in its turn a distinct effect on the vitamin B₁₂ resorption from the alimentary tract, increases the production of inner factor necessary for binding, transport and storage of this vitamin. The aim of the present work was to carry out observations on behaviour of iron, copper and vitamin B₁₂ level as a functional form of cobalt in the serum of healthy sheep in different physiological states.

The genus Rhodiola (Crassulaceae) consists of more than 100 species. They grow mainly in Tibet, China and Mongolia and are traditionally used as tonic, adaptogen , antidepressant and anti-inflammatory drugs. The best known is Rhodiola rosea (R. rosea) now cultivated also in Europe and North America, and present on the market as dietary supplement. Some authors reported anti-tumor activity of R. rosea extracts. Recently, we have published some data on immunomodulatory and antiangiogenic properties of R. rosea. Rhodiola quadrifida (R. quadrifida) belongs to the same family, but is almost not known in Europe, and there is no information about its possible anti-tumor as well as immunotropic and angiotropic activity. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of 50% hydro-alcoholic extract from rhizomes of R. quadrifida (Mongolian origin) and its main biologically active compound salidroside on tumor-induced angiogenesis. Angiogenesis was induced in the skin of Balb/c mice by grafting of syngeneic L-l sarcoma cells. Mice were fed R. quadrifida extract or salidroside in daily doses 40, 200 and 400 μg, or 0.5, 1, 2, and 4 μg, respectively. After 72 hours, mice were sacrificed with lethal dose of Morbital. All newly formed blood vessels were identified and counted in dissection microscope. Results: It was found that R. quadrifida extract and salidroside highly significantly decreased neovas- cular reaction in all doses applied.
