An experimental design method was used in order to determine the most relevant parameters as well as the crossing effects to be considered in mechanical splicing. This approach was applied in order to establish a statistical model to predict the splicing properties of thick and medium cotton yarns for denim fabrics. This model shows that the change in the value of drafting has no influence on the properties of the mechanical splicing. Moreover, high values of untwisting and low re-twisting values improve those properties. The result proved that in optimal conditions, and in contrast to pneumatic splicing, the yarn linear density has no influence on the properties of splice. Therefore, mechanical splicing may be used for a wide range of yarns.

Agave Americana L. fibres have quite important textile potential. In this paper, we demonstrate this potential by studying the extraction of these fibres from leaves, their physical properties such as fineness, density and their mechanical behaviour in tensile tests. The intrinsic variability of all these properties is also studied, showing natural maturity and ageing of fibres.

The retained strength of wet spliced yarns can be controlled to some extent by suitable choices of certain factors related to the process. In order to understand how these variables influence the breaking force of wet spliced yarns, a central composite design was formulated and three variables - yarn count, the duration of air joining and the duration of water joining - were considered. Analysis of the results indicates that yarn count and length of splice contribute significantly to this mechanical property of wet sized spliced yarns. The duration of water joining, the duration of air joining of splice and the recipe size have a considerable effects.

In this study, the mechanical behaviour of parent as well as wet spliced cotton denim yarns were compared before and after sizing in order to evaluate the sizing contribution and to predict the effectiveness of sized splices during weaving. The sizes used were natural (CarboxyMethylCellulose size) and synthetic (Acrylic size). It is found that splicing improves the breaking strength of both parent and spliced yarns, while sizing improves the elongation at break of only wet pneumatic spliced yarns. The same results were obtained under cyclical tensioning.

W badaniach porównano właściwości mechaniczne bawełnianych przędz dżinsowych konwencjonalnych i skręcanych na mokro. Porównano je przed i po naniesieniu preparacji dla określenia jej wpływu na efektywność tkania. Zastosowano preparacje naturalne (karboksymetylocelulozowe) i syntetyczne (akrylowe) .

The principal aim of this work is to study the effect of matter, types of launderings (stone wash, enzyme wash, mixed wash and rinse), special treatments applied during the manufacturing process of garment washing (brushing, sanding, resin-treatment, bleach-treatment, permanganate-spray and softening) and their succession on the fabric mechanical properties: Tear strength (T. S) and Breaking strength (B. S). The results show that all these treatments, applied to obtain more worn appearance and aged look for garment has decreased the mechanical properties. Moreover , the resin- treatment is the most aggressive for cloths in the set of the special treatments. In fact, whatever the following washing process is stone washing or mixed washing, the finishing resin-treatment destroys the matter and reduces a lot the mechanical resistance. Thus, we proved that in the case of washed denim fabric, it is advisable to avoid the line of succession of treatments containing the resin-treatment and mixed washing process.
