The mechanism of silver electrodeposition, using electrochemical impedance technique at equilibrium potential, was studied in the frequency range 0.03–950 Hz and at the concentration of cyanide ions from 0.1 to 1.0 M. The analysis of the impedance data was carried out taking into account the partial passivation of the electrode surface. Based on the experimental data, the dependencies on KCN concentration were obtained, namely: double layer electric capacitance, charge transfer resistance, diffusion impedance, as well as capacitance and resistance of the cyanide adsorption. The exchange current density on the active surface sites was evaluated. From j0 – log[CN–] dependence, the reaction order of silver reduction with respect to cyanide concentration was found to be 1.81.
