This article describes the revolution of 1905–1907 in the area of the Baltic and Lithuanian provinces. The text is divided into two parts, dealing with social and national issues. The first part presents strikes and protests of specific social groups. The social aspects of the revolution, despite its bloody course, led to improvement of labour conditions for a part of the population in the area under discussion. Similarly, new rights were acquired by such nationalities as Estonians, Lithuanians, Latvians, Poles and Jews. The „Kraj” journal critically evaluated the chaos and riots, but at the same time it expressed its satisfaction with concessions made by the authorities towards the protesters, especially in cases where no reprisals were suffered and strikes ended without bloodshed. Despite a negative assessment of the revolution, the „Kraj” journalists, without openly writing about this fact, emphasized that there would have been no concessions on the tsarist side without the revolution.

W artykule omówiono rewolucję lat 1905–1907 na obszarze guberni nadbałtyckich oraz litewskich. Tekst został podzielony na dwie części: problematykę społeczną oraz narodową. W pierwszym z nich opisałem strajki i protesty poszczególnych grup społecznych.

In Old English, negative adjectives, i.e. incorporating the negative prefix -un, are said to generally come in postposition to nouns (e.g. Fischer, 2001; Sampson, 2010). This paper investigates to what extent this general rule is followed in Aelfric’s Catholic Homilies, the texts of this author being a typical choice for the study of Old English syntax (cf. Davis 2006; Reszkiewcz, 1966; Kohonen, 1978). The data have been obtained from the York-Toronto-Helsinki Parsed Corpus of Old English Prose (YCOE). The following research questions have been formulated: Do strong negative adjectives outnumber nonnegated adjectives in postposition? Do strong negative adjectives have a tendency to appear in postposition? Do strong negated adjectives occur in preposition? The results indicated that for the sample analyzed, strong adjectives in postposition are not predominantly negated. Additionally, the postposition of most of those which are may potentially be explained by other factors, such as modification by a prepositional phrase, co-occurrence with a weak preposed adjective (both mentioned by Fischer), or indirect Latin influence in a formulaic phrase. Also, the data does not appear to support the observation that negated adjectives tend to appear in post- rather than preposition.

Arsenije IV Jovanović Šakabenta (1698–1748) was one of the last leaders of the Peć Patriarchate. The period of his service coincided with the so-called Second Great Migration of the Serbs, i.e. the migration of portions of the Serbian society from Kosovo and Metohija to the southern territories of the Habsburg monarchy. This event majorly determined the actions of the patriarch at the end of the 1730s. The article outlines the political ambitions of Arsenije IV, which he tried to realize around that time. Particular focus is given to his vision of the Serbian community under the Habsburgs and to his efforts to retain the privileges which the Serbs had been granted by emperors Leopold I, Joseph I, and Charles VI. Additionally, the analysis covers the internal dynamics of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the territories of the Habsburg monarchy. The paper also touches upon the military issues and discusses the role of Serbian soldiers in the political plans of Arsenije IV Jovanović Šakabenta.

The paper demonstrates the current state of research on the presence of Slavs on the island of Crete in the Middle Ages, as well as in the modern times. The basis for the discussion is a new book of Pantelis Haralampakis, published in 2016. There are numerous controversies surrounding the issues of the exact chronology of Slavic presence on the island, the lexical influence of South Slavic languages on the Cretan dialect of Modern Greek, as well as possible traces of Slavic settlements in the Cretan toponymy.
