The article deals with an impact of the type of a contaminant in track ballast on the value of its electric resistance. The authors propose to treat crushed stone with organic materials before laying it down onto the track to decrease the sticking of contaminants to the ballast layer. The study has determined that electric resistance changes according to the type of coating on crushed stone grains and the type of mineral fertilizers transported by rail. Such coating can be proposed for treating clean crushed stone before laying it down onto the track during repair periods in order to extend the life cycle of a ballast layer, prevent its adhesion contamination and eliminate the erroneous occupancy of track circuit.

W artykule rozpatrzono wpływ rodzaju zanieczyszczenia żwiru balastowego na wielkość jego rezystancji. Zaproponowano dla zmniejszenia przylepiania się zanieczyszczeń do warstwy balastowej obrabiać żwir przed układaniem do drogi kolejowej materiałami organicznymi. Ustalono, ze rezystancja zmienia się w zależności od rodzaju pokrycia na ziarnkach żwiru i od rodzaju nawozów mineralnych, jakie są transportowane koleją. Takie pokrycie może być zaproponowano dla obróbki czystego żwiru przed jego układaniem do drogi kolejowej podczas remontów dla przedłużenia terminów eksploatacji warstwy balastowej, uprzedzenia adgezyjnego zabrudzenia i likwidacji wypadków błędnej pracy obwodu torowego.
The problem of monolithic behavior of a metal pipe and fiberglass safety cage has been considered in the article. The prestressed case does not only decrease the deformability of a pipe on-load but it also protects metal from corrosion. The ability to withstand the arising stresses has been investigated for both strip fiberglass reinforcement and the whole construction. It has been shown that the deformability of fiberglass depends on the kind of binder. The maximum strength value has been obtained while gluing glass fibers with butvar-phenolic glue. The calculated rupture strength coefficient of strip fiberglass reinforcement and the analysis of monolithic behaviour of metal and reinforcement proved the precondition as to the plasticity of a developed material. The process of force transmission between a steel pipe and fiberglass at ductile stage has been analyzed in the article. While forecasting the work of a pipe on-load, it is necessary to take into account nonlinearity of metal-fiberglass pipe properties.
The development of a diagnostic system is a complex engineering problem aimed at preventing damage caused by deteriorating properties of the materials and structures. This article presents the method of nondestructive testing of change control of concrete structures. The analysis of literature data shows that the overwhelming majority of studies are devoted to the change in electrical resistance of concrete in the collection of its strength, and practically no analogous studies regarding its aging are presented. Theoretical substantiation of the change in electrical concrete characteristics (conductivity, resistance) is given with a change in its strength. A work over-bridge in operation more than 30 years has been surveyed. The experimental part consisted in measuring the electrical potentials on the bridge structures, as well as in determining the strength of the material at the same points. Correlation dependence between the measured electric potential value and the strength of the samples taken from the bridge structures were obtained.
Progress in modern engineering devices favours the development of independent computer systems of intelligent change management of operational characteristics of construction facilities. The article deals with the continuous control system (monitoring) of the soil moisture. The capillary sensor applied provides a far higher accuracy in determining the moisture than it is achieved by discrete determination of soil electrical characteristics which depend on the concentration and proportion of salts dissolved in the soil as well as the particle-size distribution. A flowchart of the diagnostic system was developed; it does not only transfer the data from the sensors, processes them and informs the operator, but also gives the possibility of autonomous inclusion of mechanisms to eliminate the emerged damages. Thus, while monitoring the soil moisture of hillsides, embankments and cuts slopes it prevents their shifts and other damages.
