Гельскому полуострову угрожает уничтожение. Под влиянием штормов он покрывается песком, в самом узком месте окохо Халуп его ширина насчитывает 60 м. Жители и любители полуострова — одновременно Приморского пейзажного парка, в отчаянии из-за отсутствия эффективных действий задерживающих уничтожение. Не хватает не только денег, но даже концепции спасения Геля. По мнению автора необходимым было бы построение предохранительных песчаных холмов, но такой задачи не решит местная администрация.

The Hel peninsula is threatened by destruction. Under the influence of succeeding gales it is being covered with sand, and in its neck, in the neighbourhood of the village Chałupy, it is only 60 meters wide. The inhabitants and the lovers of the peninsula which at the same time is the Seaside Landscape Park are in despair because of a lack of effective actions which could hinder the catastrophe. There are no indispensable funds and even a conception of saving Hel has not been put forward. According to the author's opinion the building of a protective dune sea wall would be absolutely necessary, but this task could not be coped with by the local authorities.

The paper concerns research of application of smooth functions in the approximation of friction force discontinuity in the static friction models. The following smooth functions are considerec: trigonometric functions and B-spline curve of third order. The aim of research is to determine the influence of smooth functions adopted in the friction models on the convergence of numerical calculations of motion equations. The friction models of smooth course in the stick-slip friction phase can be used when solving the dynamic systems of machines (e.g., works transport devices) with the help of the method designed for continuous systems.

This article presents the validation process of a brake FE model by means of temperature measured on a special stand using infrared technology. Unlike many other publications, the authors try to show the interaction between measurement technology and numerical modeling rather than only nice, perfectly correlated graphs. Some difficulties in choosing and using validation parameters are also pointed out and discussed. Finally, results of FE analyses are compared with measured data, followed by explanation of applied numerical technology and estimation of validation process effectiveness.
