The first part of the article presents selected events form the life of Edith Stein, with particular attention paid to her intellectual development including her studies in Breslau and then in Göttingen, her acquaintance and cooperation with an outstanding German philosopher Edmund Hussler, as well as her friendship with Roman Ingarden. The great Polish philosopher’s comments on Edith Stein’s philosophy have been presented in the second part of the article. They definitely provide excellent elaboration on her scientific output. The third part of the text focuses on “empathy” or “Einfühlung” as a way to get to know another human being. Edith Stein’s whole doctoral dissertation focuses on that particular issue, as it was written in the period of the Author’s phenomenological activity.
