This short sketch focuses on the excerpt from Adam Mickiewicz’s early poem „Już się z pogodnych niebios…” (1818), where the young poet specifies the rules of receiving new members into the Philomath Society (Towarzystwo Filomatów). Mickiewicz drew the basic motif of that part of the poem from the last section of Stanisław Trembecki’s Classicist descriptive poem Sofijówka (verses 425nn). What in an Enlightenment poem characterised by clearly libertine and pro-Russian tendencies served the representative of the Stanislavian times to build an individual microethics programme which was concerend exclusively with one’s closest circle and their attitude towards themselves, in a programmatic poem by a young Romantic became a set of rules to select righteous and trustworthy poeple who would not take fright in front of adversities and would resist a variety of pressures. Trembecki’s poem, however, also contained yearning for a forseeable future and nostalgia for what had been lost.

The article is an attempt at the interpretation of two poems by C. Norwid: [“A Pani cóż ja powiem?... oto, że w tym życiu...”] – [What do I say to you, Lady?… that in this life…] and [„W komnacie, gdzie Stanisław święty zasnął w Bogu...”] – [In the room where St. Stanislaus fell asleep in God’s peace...]. It also clarifies the current state of knowledge about the addressee of both poems, Stanisława Hornowska, the poet’s cousin, and the circumstances in which both works were created. A significant part of this contribution is devoted to the Roman traces of St. Stanislaus Kostka and the places associated with his presence in the Eternal City, as well as the decor of those places which played an important role in the formation of Norwid’s image of St. Stanislaus. The last part of this article points to the perfectly visible tension between the static equilibrium of the real sculpture presenting the death of St. Stanislaus and the image of Tommaso Minardi hanging over it, titled Mary with Angels and Saints Waiting for the Soul of St. Stanislaus Kostka – and the dynamically constructed poetic vision.

Szkic, napisany z bardzo osobistej perspektywy, poświęcony jest sposobowi, w jaki prof. Marian Maciejewski wykorzystywał lirykę polskiego oświecenia do przedstawienia źródeł i inspiracji polskiej poezji romantycznej (przede wszystkim A. Mickiewicza), a także wskazuje, co w poezji osiemnastowiecznej interesowało tego badacza, w jaki sposób opisywał cechy szczególne poezji czasów Stanisława Augusta, w czym upatrywał jej roli prekursorskiej wobec dokonań poezji XIX wieku oraz w jaki sposób rozwinął wcześniejsze badania Czesława Zgorzelskiego, poświęcone literaturze tego czasu.

The sketch, written from a very personal perspective, is evoted to the way, in which Prof. Marian Maciejewski used lyrical poetry of the Polish Enlightenment to present sources and inspirations of Polish Romantic poetry (first of all that by A. Mickiewicz), and also it indicates what was interesting for this scholar in the 18th century poetry, how he described the characteristics of the poetry written in Stanisław August's times, where he perceived its pioneering role for the achievements of 19th century poetry, and in what way he developed the earlier studies by Czesław Zgorzelski devoted to the literature of that time.
