The article shows possible improvement of corrugator operation and energy saving. Particular attention was paid to a steam and condensate systems in corrugators and compressed air systems. The article presents applicable technical solutions enhancing energy effectiveness of corrugator. A need for application of control systems for corrugated production process and control of basic parameters based on their continuous visualization were underlined. In the latest BHS corrugators, a visualization system is an integrated part of the Process Control System (PCS). Paper is one of the major factors impacting production cost of corrugated board. The latest high-speed corrugators can convert lightweight paper grades both as liners ad fluting. Market analysis show growing demand for light paper grades. Corrugator suppliers have to develop new solutions considering both higher efficiency and deteriorating corrugator operation and corrugated board quality.

W ostatnich latach zużycie energii (cieplnej i elektrycznej) stało się ważnym tematem politycznym, gospodarczym oraz naukowym w wielu krajach świata. Koszty zużycia energii w procesach produkcyjnych(stanowiące zwykle 30-40% udziału w kosztach całkowitych) oraz skutki ekologiczne, określane np. wskaźnikami emisji CO2, zmusiły do poszukiwania energooszczędnych technologii wytwarzania różnych produktów finalnych oraz projektowania i użytkowania maszyn i instalacji, które powinny charakteryzować się wskaźnikami wysokiej efektywności energetycznej. Energia jest określana jako medium, które musi być dostępne ciągle i którego nie da się przechowywać, tak jak np. surowce (masy celulozowe, makulatura, papier, kleje itp.).

Pulp, paper and printing industries are among major European energy industrial users. Their consumption of final energy (in terms of GDP) is over 7%. A high 4th position of this industry contributes to the fact that it is considered as one the most energy consuming industries in Europe. However, the pulp and paper industry belongs to the group of industries with the highest potential (about 60%) of improving the energy efficiency. Corrugated board is basic, very popular packaging material, although its production process is highly energy consuming. The purpose of the series of the articles on the corrugator operation during corrugated board production is to present possibilities and methods for efficient saving of heat and electric energy.
