Treatment of 10T1/2 cells with promoting phorbol ester drasticly enhanced migration studied fibroblasts in a serum-supplemented medium.The same cells when exposed to ionomycin or TPA in a serum-free medium did not show any migration.The addition of 1% of serum induced spontaneous and TPA stimulated migration.Also EGF and PDGE separatly or together induced the migration of 10T1/2 cells.Parallel studies of protein kinase C documented low enzymatic activity after treatment with TPA, whereas transcripts of PKC were shown independently of TPA treatment.

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is an angiogenic cytokine with potential therapeutic applications in human diseases. It is a mitogen primarily for endothelial cells. The transfer of the cDNA encoding VEGF to ischemic tissues, which cannot be revascularized otherwise, represents a novel and promising approach to the treatment of vascular disorders. In this work the VEGF165 cDNA was cloned into the expression vector pSecTag2B. The activity of the construct was studied in cell culture as well as in vivo. Western blotting study showed that the cells transfected with the vector secreted significantly higher amounts of VEGF to the culture medium than the non-transfected cells. In vivo study revealed an increased number of new vessels in animals injected with vector encoding VEGF as compared with empty plasmid. Also, tumor cells transfected with the VEGF plasmid exhibited extensive vascularization.

This study examined verbal and nonverbal aspects of explicit and implicit memory in a sample of 19 Parkinson's disease (PD) patients and 21 control subjects. For implicit memory evaluation, we used a Mirror Reading (MR) task employing verbal material as well as a nonverbal Serial Reaction Time (SRT) task. For explicit memory measurement we applied a word pairs task (verbal) and pairs of a Japanese ideograms task (nonverbal). The PD patients displayed impairments in the nonverbal tasks only, namely, in the SRT task and the pairs of Japanese ideograms task. No correlation between Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) scores and the results of tasks in which PD patients displayed deficits (SRT and pairs of Japanese ideograms) were discovered. Interestingly, such a correlation was found in the case of MR and words pairs tasks, which did not distinguish PD patients from control group.
