In the paper the model of the intangible production network system adapted to the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) environment is presented. The educational organization, which works according to the ODL objectives, is obligated to conduct continuous analysis of competences required by the market. The educational organization guarantees competences acquired through its curriculum. The competences guaranteed by the organization should reflect the market demands with regard to the continuous development of technology and knowledge. Intangible production is an advanced manufacturing process performed on the information level, where input materials, semi products and final products are in a digital form. The production network consists of nodes, each of which performs processing of information and knowledge through collaboration with other nodes. The paper focuses on the kind of intangible production where the production process utilizes different types of knowledge and competencefis the final product. In the paper a model of intangible production network for competence development in the context of educational organization is discussed. The proposed approach can be used to develop and manage knowledge-base systems on the level of ontology.

Analizie poddane zostały znane metody wizualizacji i modelowania wiedzy w celu znalezienia sposobu reprezentacji wiedzy w systemach nauczania zdalnego. W oparciu o przedstawione metody i mechanizmy pracujące na poziomie: (i) wizualizacji wiedzy, (ii) formalnego opisu wiedzy zostala zaproponowana idea repozytorium wiedzy oparta z jednej strony na metodzie wizualizacji wiedzy w postaci map konceptualnych, a z drugiej strony na podejściu bazującym na ontologii lekkiej.

The authors have discussed the distance learning didactical materials issue for asynchronous mode. The special attention is paid to the knowledge repository, which consist of the knowledge modules. The motivation of research comes from the new paradigm of education, which assumes the growth of the asynchronous distance learning methods in the total balance of the education cost. The learning object considered as a basic atomic element of the distance learning materials, directly influences the quality of education process. There are well-accepted distance learning standards (Sharable Content Object Reference Model - SCORM, IEEE Learning Object Matadata, etc.), which describe the structure and data representation of the learning object. The most sophisticated task is to characterize the learning object content and the method of the Learning Object storing in the knowledge repository. The knowledge repository is a vital element of the Learning Management Systems/ Learning Content Management Systems (LMS/LCMS). The distance learning actors use the knowledge modeling as the substitute of the natural language. Artificial environment provided by the LMS/LCMS gives a set of tools to manipulate the Learning Object. Unfortunately, nowadays the existing solutions suffer for the lack of the formal approach to the knowledge repository structure. The solutions, which are developed in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) cannot be used directly, due to the learning environment conditions. To solve up the dilemma the following knowledge models were examined: Semantic Networks, Conceptual Graphs, Formal Concept Analysis, Conceptual Maps, Topic Maps, Skills Maps. As a result the authors come up with the proposal of the knowledge repository with two-dimensional structure: (i) knowledge visualization, (ii) formal knowledge description which hired the idea of the conceptual maps and the lightweight ontology.

As the amount of options regarding the possibility to start/continue higher education increases, due to such reasons as the development of European Higher Education Area, the decision about choosing one of them becomes even more diffcult. One of the most important factors that need to be taken into account is how well the set of competences guaranteed by an education offer reflects the predicted requirements of the job market. In the article authors propose a formal model, based on an object database, that would enable evaluating compatibility of two chosen sets of competences while taking into account different aspects connected to market needs.

In the article the authors propose an extended ontological model for distance learning, concerning pedagogical and cognitive requirements of the teaching/learning process. The main characteristic of the dedicated ontological model is reusability, which manifests itself in the possibility of adapting the knowledge model to different contexts and for different users by simply enabling knowledge sharing and knowledge management. The conceptual schemes are used for modelling the knowledge about queuing systems for knowledge repository and ontology development purposes. Authors have taken advantage of the computational models theory in order to create a model which combine theoretical and procedural knowledge.

The ability to create and manage knowledge is commonly recognized as one the most important quality of the modern and innovative organization. The management of knowledge and skills, as well as the management of company competencies has turned out to be essential factors influencing performance of industrial processes. In the paper, the authors present the method and tools for competence modelling for enterprise knowledge management. Modelling competences as quantitative measures of knowledge workers performance provides a framework for effective human resource management within the knowledge based organisation. The authors explore possibilities of integrating existing competence description standards with mathematical methods of competence analysis into one common software framework. The product of this idea is the concept of reusable Competence Object Library.
