The performances of contemporary playwright and director René Pollesch deal with the current discourses, hegemonic structures and their impact on individuals. His discourse-theatre also correlates with representational practices, prevailing standards and heterosexual normativity in the context of the neoliberal capitalism, by exposing these closely interrelated categories as constructions and destabilizing them. These are the specific possibilities of contemporary theatre – the answer to the question, what it still can do.

Die Inszenierungen des Gegenwartsautors und -Regisseurs René Pollesch behandeln gängige Diskurse, hegemoniale Strukturen und deren Auswirkungen auf einzelne Individuen. Im Kontext des neoliberalen Kapitalismus korreliert auch sein Diskurstheater mit den repräsentativen Praktiken, herrschenden Normen und Heteronormativität, mit den prekären Arbeitsverhältnissen und der problematischen Körperlichkeit, indem diese eng aneinander gekoppelten Kategorien als Kon- struktionen herausgestellt und destabilisiert werden. Darin bestehen die besonderen Möglichkeiten des Gegenwartstheaters – Antwort auf die Frage, was es noch kann.
