Dr Witold Więźlak (1955 - 1989) started his first beetle collection as a teenager. Although he studied at Warsaw Polytechnic, and his PhD thesis delt with biocybernetics, his real passion was coleopterology. He worked on water beetles belonging to the superfamily Dryopoidea (Elmidae, Limnichidae, and Dryopidae). The result of his contacts with specialist from all around the world was very valuable collection of world Dryopoidea, which included tens of thousands of specimens. He described several new species of beetles. After his death his collection of insects and entomological books was donated to Museum and Institute of Zoology (PAS, Warsaw).
