The article focuses on the relationship between globalization and language in the modern world. In the theoretical part of the paper the author explains the concepts of globalization and westernization before discussing the definition of the lexeme globalization in English, Polish and Russian. In the practical part, such words as mall, strip mall, food hall, food mall, food court, droguerie, discount store are analyzed. Assimilation processes and the registration of new lexis in dictionary sources (are used to) demonstrate the mechanism of the impact of progressing globalization processes on the language – the gradual transition from foreign realities and an unknown word to the assimilation of these realities together with the names. The dynamic changes in the language system are caused by the dynamic changes that the modern world is undergoing. The analysis is conducted on material from English, Polish, Russian and – partly – Ukrainian.

The article puts forward a proposal for a Russian-Polish entry article on the diplomatic term of agrément. The study is a part of the lexicographic research project “Diplomacy and politics. Russian-Polish dictionary survey”. Bilingual (Russian-Polish) dictionaries give only the basic pair of equivalents of the term in question. However, the exploration of texts enabled the researcher to collect the pairs of equivalents not recorded so far in the Russian-Polish lexicography. Basing on the material of the proposed entry article the author highlights the methodological assumptions of the project – draws attention to frequency as a classifying criterion and the significance of monolingual and bilingual dictionaries for verification of collected material, as well as characterizes the peculiar nature of the process of confronting parallel texts (created independently of each other, yet similar in genre and topic).

The aim of the study is to characterise a genre pattern of a condolence telegram in Russian. A telegram is one of many genres of diplomatic correspondence, used to give condolences and express sympathy and support on the occasion of calamities and natural disasters. The senders and receivers of telegrams are heads of state (official institutinal communication), as well as nations of both countries and people afflicted with the disaster. The study conducted on a corpus of 150 texts (50 telegrams and 100 press releases) analyses the structure and lexico-pragmatic features of texts to establish the most frequent pattern of telegram in the current textual corpus. The results of the study show that a condolence telegram is a highly conventionalized genre.
