Geomechanical and hydrological surface deformation caused by the underground hard coal extraction leads to limited agricultural and natural soil use. The paper presents results of soil productivity indices determined in the area of post-mining subsidence depression near Libiąż. The algorithm of method suggested by Zhengi Hu et al. [1992] was used for the computations. The obtained results of field and laboratory analyses indicate soils degradation due to water logging and a necessity to undertake reclamation measures to restore their previous values. Determined productivity indices (PI) characterise the selected ground as the area with poor conditions for agricultural production. The reason for low PI values is a change in the soil properties because of degradation. The methods presented in the paper may be used to determine the degree of soil degradation in the areas of hard coal mining.

In the work there were presented results of investigations of physico-water properties and water retention ability of chosen post industrial waste in the aspect of natural management. Soil water characteristic curves were determined in pressure chambers with porous ceramic plate and parametrized to the van Genuchten equation. The obtained results show, that the less advantageous retention ability has flotation waste and coal mud, the medium one metallurgical and soda waste. The best retention properties have energetic and heat energetic waste. The determined soil water characteristic curves can be the base for evaluation possibilities of natural management of the investigated waste. The carried out investigations, supplemented by examination of chemical properties enable to choose optimal methods of biological reclamation of landfills where are deposited.

Na rekultywowany teren pogórniczy naniesiono substrat glebowy zawierający osady ściekowe. Oznaczono zawartość metali ciężkich w próbkach nowo powstałej gleby pobranej z tego terenu i gleby kontrolnej. Obliczono wskaźnik zanieczyszczenia dla substratu glebowego i Taraxacum officinale metalami ciężkimi na obszarze poeksploatacyjnym. Stwierdzono korzystny wpływ materiału doglebowego na zdegradowane tereny pogórnicze. Odpady przemysłowe i komunalne mogą być wykorzystane w gospodarce o obiegu zamkniętym i rekultywacji terenu.

Sewage sludge mixt. was deposited on the post-mining area. The content of heavy metals in soil samples was taken from both study and control site. The heavy metal contamination index for the soil substrate and Taraxacum officinale in the post-mining area was calculated. The beneficial effect of soil substrate on reclaimed post-mining areas was found. Industrial and municipal waste can be used for a circular economy and land reclamation.
