In 1824, the Society for the History and Antiquity of Pomerania (Gesellschaft für Pommersche Geschichte und Alterthumskunde) was established in Szczecin. It united, among others, scholars who conducted scientific research and published source editions. In the period of its many years of activity, the Society has accumulated rich collections that included monuments of material culture and a collection of books. In 1856, after the conclusion of the contract with the provincial archives in Szczecin (Königliche Provinzial-Archivs zu Stettin), the Society’s library was moved to this archives. The book collections of both institutions have inherited the library of today’s National Archives in Szczecin. We are talking about preserved collections, a significant part of them was dispersed during and after the World War II. This article presents selected examples of religious literature, focusing on editions published in the period from the fifteenth century to the first half of the twentieth century.

The Library of the State Archives in Szczecin has got a valuable collection of old printed books, including a large collection of handbooks. The article presents selected examples of 17th and 18th century publications produced in Szczecin, in one of the most important local schools, the Paedagogium Ducale, later transformed into the Gymnasium Carolinum. These materials, referring to various manifestations of school life, illustrate reflect activities of educational institutions of that time. They are also an important supplement to the history of culture and social life in Szczecin and in the Western Pomerania.

The Society for the History and Antiquities of Pomerania, established in Szczecin in 1824 and one of the city’s most important scientific institutions, initiated Slavic and Kashubian studies research in its first years of activity. It enlisted the cooperation of, among others, an expert in Slavic literature, Professor of the University of Wrocław Jan E. Purkynĕ (1787–1869). Václav Hanka (1791–1861). A Czech linguist, educator, librarian, poet, and translator was also among the Society’s members. Thanks to this cooperation, valuable literature on Czech and Slavic subjects came into the Szczecin Society’s collection, but only a few copies have survived. One of them is the translation of V. Hanka: Hrdinský zpiew o tažení proti Polovcům, Praha 1821. Bohemica also found their way into the collection as gifts from other donors interested in the subject.

Powołane w Szczecinie w 1824 r. Towarzystwo Historii i Starożytności Pomorza, będące jedną z najważniejszych instytucji naukowych miasta, w pierwszych latach swej działalności zainicjowało badania z zakresu słowiańszczyzny i kaszubszczyzny. Pozyskano w tym celu do współpracy m.in. znawcę literatury słowiańskiej, profesora Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego Jana E. Purkynĕ (1787–1869). Wśród członków Towarzystwa znalazł się też Václav Hanka (1791–1861), czeski językoznawca, pedagog, bibliotekarz, poeta, tłumacz. Dzięki tej współpracy do zbiorów szczecińskiego Towarzystwa napływała literatura poświęcona tematyce czeskiej i słowiańskiej, której cenne, choć nieliczne przykłady zachowały się do dzisiaj. Jednym z nich jest tłumaczenie V. Hanki: Hrdinský zpiew o tažení proti Polovcům, Praha 1821. Bohemika trafiały do omawianego zasobu również jako dary innych donatorów zainteresowanych tą tematyką.
