There have been analyzed eighteen measurements of 115 mares active in private breeding in the year 1985/86 in the Częstochowa, Katowice and Opole provinces. The measurements were used for calculation of twenty external conformation indiccs. Taken into account was also the descent of the horses as well as selected procreation indices such as the age at the first mating, getting infertile, number of foals born, the course of parturitions and the number of descendants entered into the herdbooks. There was also considered the utilization of the horses, the system of their maintenance as well as some data concerning the farms of their owners. Among others, there has been calculated the mechanization index of those farms.
