The nature of small and medium sized enterprises is exemplified by such characteristics as: personal ownership, dominance of one-person companies, limited possibilities to achieve large-sale. The article presents an important role of the owner's capital in financing of current operations and investments in small and medium sized enterprises, and also limited access of SME to the sources of finance, coming from the banking sector.
