Two staphylococcal test strains used in this work showed different susceptibility to a bactericidal action of bovine serum and milk; the non-pathogenic Mendita strain proved to be more susceptible. Normal milk samples had weaker bactericidal properties in comparison with mastitic milk samples. Milk obtained from cows affected with experimentally induced, non-bacterial mastitis had stronger bactericidal properties than milk before inducing mastitis. Addition of serum albumin to milk in doses of 0.5 and 1.0 mg/ml did not stimulate its bactericidal properties. Inactivation of milk at 56°C for 30 minutes decreased its bactericidal properties for the two test strains of staphylococci.
