This paper is meant as a commentary on less obvious developments of Western and Eastern Christian spirituality. It can hardly be denied that religions have their connections with this world: history, geography, culture, and accordingly develop in symbiosis with their environment. The reverse of that is the influence which religious beliefs exert on cultural endeavours, a most spectacular example of which is the art of painting. In this vein, the author examines the political and cultural context of the partition into the Catholic and the Orthodox Christianity, together with the differences between Western and Eastern spirituality, to search then for the correspondences between the political and cultural formation and the modes of artistic expression. Finally, some possible connections are established between the politically and historically-shaped spiritual traits of the Catholic and Orthodox Church, and the rules which inspired Western religious painting and the writing of icons, respectively.

In my paper I tackle the issue of the cultural self-image of the East European Jew. I provide a critical analysis of a number of texts, of different kinds and bents – confessional, literary, historical, political – to demonstrate the paradoxes and contradictions of Jewish identity. Noticing the bi-polar paths of Jewish self-interpretation (as exemplified, for instance, by Heschel and Szahak), neither free from the subjective and emotional trends, I argue for the truth closer to those views which acknowledge the religious specificity of the Jewish nation as the chosen people. Regardless of multiple contexts worth considering and at work, the essence of Jewishness dwells in the religious feeling.

Usługi z zakresu poradnictwa zawodowego mogą pelnić ważną pomoc studentom w procesie tranzycji z edukacji na rynek pracy. By jednak pomoc ta była efektywna, treści usług poradnictwa zawodowego powinny być dostosowane do realnych potrzeb studentów (często wynikających z przeobrażeń rynku edukacji i pracy). Niniejsze opracowanie wskazuje na wybrane wyzwania przed jakimi stają współcześni studenci/ absolwenci w kontekście dynamiki rozwoju rynku edukacji i pracy. Przedstawione w nim zostały także wyniki badań dotyczące oczekiwań studentów względem treści usług z zakresu poradnictwa zawodowego.

Counseling services can play an important role in helping students in the transition from education to the labour market. However, in order to make this assistance effective, the content of career guidance services should be tailored to the real needs of students (often resulting from the transformation of education and labour market). This study points to the selected challenges faced by contemporary students / graduates in the context of the dynamics of the development of education and labour market. It presents also the results of research on students' expectations with respect to the content of career guidance.
