Purpose: Purpose of this paper is the definition of a framework to describe the Technological Product Specifications (TPS) and the information associated with the geometric dimensioning and tolerancing to integrate the design concepts into a commercial inspection system. Design/methodology/approach: A functional tolerance model provides a complete framework to define the geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and its relationship with the part geometry and the inspection process. This framework establishes a connection between a computer aided design and computer aided inspection system throughout the exportation of the information associated to the dimensions and tolerance of the part into a commercial CAI system. Findings: They are mainly focused on the definition of a framework that describes the relationship between the entities of dimensions and tolerances with the geometry of the part. The information imported to a CAI system allows to develop the inspection process without the additional information provided by a physical drawing of the part. Research limitations/implications: They regard the limited access to commercial CAI system and to the lack of protocols of exchange of data associated to the tolerances of the part. Practical implications: They involve facilitation of the inspection process development. This implication allows realizing the inspection process reducing the time spent to define the geometry to inspect and the parameters that must be controlled. Originality/value: The main value of this research is the development of a unique framework to extract the information related to the geometric dimensioning and tolerances and the geometry of the part in a common model. This model provides a complete definition and representation of the entities, attributes and relationship of design and inspection system.

Free-roaming cats are known to adversely impact native faunas in the areas where they have been introduced, an impact that is even greater on islands. We examine the predation of bats by cats at Culebrones cave, Puerto Rico, West Indies. Culebrones cave is a hot cave located in the karst region of northern Puerto Rico. The temperature gradient inside the cave sustains a multi-species assemblage of bats consisting of approximately 300,000 individuals of six species, namely: Brachyphylla cavernarum, Erophylla bombifrons, Monophyllus redmani, Mormoops blainvillei, Pteronotus quadridens and Pteronotus parnellii. Even though rats are often their primary prey, cats will use alternative prey, which enables them to maintain their abundance when one prey is not available. In Puerto Rico, birds and reptiles are known to be preyed upon by cats. Although cats are commonly observed in or around bat caves in Puerto Rico, this is the first systematic attempt to evaluate their role as bat predators. We made observations of the hunting strategy of cats using an infrared camera and recorded the number of wings left as remains of these hunting bouts. Wings were identified to species. Cat scats were also recovered and examined to identify prey species. Our results suggest that captures of different species of bats is not a function of their abundance in the cave. While M. blainvillei (11 g) and P. quadridens (5 g) are the most abundant species in the cave, B. cavernarum (50 g) and M. redmani (11 g) are captured in greater numbers by the cats.

Usuwano jony cynku z modelowych roztworów o pH = 5 w procesie separacji pianowej. Wyznaczono zmiany stopnia wyflotowania i współczynnika wzbogacenia w zależności od prędkości przepływu powietrza oraz stężenia siarczanu dodecylosodowego jako surfaktantu anionowego.

Zinc ions were removed from model solutions of pH = 5 by foam separation process. Values of removal ratio and the enrichment coefficient were determined in a form of dependence of gas velocity and n-dodecyl sodium sulfate concentration as anionie surfactant.

Gas Chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry was applied to study the fragmentation of selected flavonoids from the ethanolic extract of Smilax domingensis Willd., Smilacaceae, known as zarzaparrilla, after Soxhlet extraction during 20 hours. Compounds belonging to one of the major subgroups found in common plants, i.e. flavanols were studied. Following solvent extraction and derivatization using BSTFA, possibly two different metabolites from the same chemical group were characterized in one analytical run: (+)-catechin and (-)-epicatechin. For the very first time, qualitative data on these analytes in the drug were determined after detailed validation of a sensitive, cheap and reliable GC-MS method.
