The influence of advection on spatial distribution of temperature in the Gulf of Gdansk is ana-lysed. In this analysis heat fluxes are completely omitted. The advection is brought about mainly by winds and depends particularly on their direction. Eastern winds curry the surface waters (usually contaminated) out of the Gulf and cause the inflow of cool bottom waters from the Gdansk Deep. The same winds induce the movement of the oceanic salty and oxidized water from the Bornholm to the Gdansk Deep via the Slupsk Channel. The advection during eastern winds is a desirable phenomenon for restoring the Gulf of Gdansk waters. The temperature distribution depends also on the advection influenced by meridional winds.

A conception of the ecological model of the Gulf of Gdansk is presented. The model includes both the inflow of matter from land and the flow of energy into the environment of the Gulf. The model consists in submodels which solve the following issues: the inflow of solar energy into the sea surface, light penetration into the deeper parts of the sea, river advection, heat balance at the sea surface, production of organic matter, the spread of suspended matter as well as bacteria and three dimensional hydrodynamics. Configuration and short descriptions of these submodels are given.

The study of the Lake Gardno uses methodology that enables to estimate a magnitude of the sea inflows, their conditioning and timing as well as frequencies of their occurrence in lake estuaries. A three dimensional hydrodynamic model was applied to the linked regions of the Baltic Sea and the Gardno Lake. The quantitative estimates allow verifying the previous calculations of the water balance including long term changes.
