ALTHOUGH THE TERM alternative political participation has been in a political science since the 60s of the last century, this form appeared in Poland only with system changes beginning in 1989. At present, alternatives to traditional forms of political participation have become one of the instruments of political struggle conducted by both parties, as well as other entities operating in the politics. This paper is an attempt to define the concept and to explore the usefulness and effectiveness of alternative forms in public and political activation of society. The analysis is on alternative forms that have been frequently used in Polish politics which include: political happenings, political flash mob, political theatre and other quasi artistic activities based on humour, parody and irony. The analysis shows that alternative forms of political participation are effective tools for political activity causing increase in interest and support for groups that use them.

Political polls are an integral part of the communication process that takes place between politics and voters. They play particularly important role in election campaigns, though, apart from them, in the era of so-called permanent campaign politicians willingly and attentively listen to the voice of the public opinions adapting their political actions to the preferences of majority of citizens. The role and importance of political polls in the world is steadily growing. Over the last several years there has been a great progress in this field. Demoscopy centres improve the tools and techniques to reach the respondents and enter into new areas of life using an increasingly modern technologies. The primary objective of public opinion research is to collect and develop as much information to help in order to characterize the political market and analyse the on-going phenomena and reveal trends. From this perspective, they are one of the best tools for the diagnostic of opinion and beliefs of society. The success of public opinion research depended on purely realistic reasons. Politicians recognized the importance of surveys as a tool that is useful in the process of governance. Thus, political polls have become a barometer of public sentiment. The main goal of opinion polls is to gather and interpret as much information as possible, which could help us characterise the political arena and to analyse the emerging phenomena and trends. From this perspective opinion polls are one of the best means to look at people’s opinions and social beliefs. It is not easy though to get trustworthy information on Poles’ preferences. Rankings of politicians and political parties differ according to different polling centres. Therefore, the question remains whether opinion polls in election campaigns are really important. They are certainly considered a trustworthy and opinion-forming source of Poles’ preferences by voters.

Defining limits of political science’s and its relations with social science is extraordinary complex task. Not only does it require constant variance analysis but also detailed analysis of similarities between mentioned fields. Moreover it is required to place them in wider perspective of social sciences. Following article depicts thesis regarding reciprocal influence of political and social science on identity of sciences in politics. Relations between social and political science have been provided in compound form, including application of appropriate methodological tools or definitions of terms used in mentioned subject field. Analysis results indicate beyond any dispute that political science is interdisciplinary science. It has ability of combining elements of diverse subject fields from particular areas; therefore we may state that it is able to provide comprehensive answers to questions regarding reciprocal influence in changing reality. Political science in combination with social science but also with other ”traditional” disciplines is not in danger of being blurred and what follows losing touch with its own identity.

Research into the attitudes towards the state institutions always provides answers to questions about the status and direction of development of the social environment in which these institutions operate. The study of the attitudes towards the civil service is no different. The centenary of the civil service in Poland provides a good opportunity to look at how it functions in the opinion and assessment of young people (aged 1834). This is because attitudes reflect civic education on the one hand, and on the other practical experience of contacts with offices and corps members. The identification of factors forming attitudes towards the civil service of young people and the diagnosis of their beliefs are the basic objectives of this article. Studies of attitudes of young people towards the civil service indicate a relatively good level of recognition of this service and positive beliefs about its functioning. It is noteworthy that in the youngest group of respondents the opinions about the civil service are better, compared with those of all the respondents and the young working people. This state of affairs may be indicative of relatively high attractiveness of the corps and the potential of the civil service as an employer. However, attitudes towards the civil service are not onesided. The perception of strengths is accompanied by a realistic view of the problems faced by both a civil servant himself and his clients. This twosided perspective gives hope that young people, whether as clients or as employees, have an educated view of the functioning of the civil service in Poland.

The aim of this article is to assess whether and to what extent parties operating in Poland which identify themselves as anti-system ones (Kukiz’15 and KORWiN (Konfederacja; Confederation)) are such parties in relation to doctrinally defined characteristics. In order to achieve the aim, the anti-system index was created and based on it, in the context of the above mentioned parties’ performance in parliamentary campaigns of 2015 and 2019, the comparative analysis of their anti-system characteristics was performed.
