The article presents the problems of diplomatic activities between Poland and the Teutonic Knights between June and August of 1409, shortly before the 'great war'. The literature treated it rather superficially sofar, without utilising the full source basis. Soon after the outbreak of anti-Teutonic rebellion in Samogitia, Polish legation came to the Grand Master, presenting 19 cases of varying weight. It was corelated with the vents in Samogitia and renewed the controversies with the Order. When in June 1409 the legates of the Grand Master went to Poland in order to learn what the Polish position concerning the Samogitian problem was, the king postponed his reply till the Leczyca meeting in the second half of July. The Polish legation in Malbork (1 August 1409) continued that tactics of evasion, trying the patience of the Grand Master who decided to prepare for the war against Poland. The behaviour of Wladyslaw Jagiello allowed him to present the Order as the aggressive side before the European public opinion, as well as his own subjects, part of whom were against open conflict with the Teutonic Knights.
