Eighteen men with urethritis trichomonadosa were treated with Flagyl administered 3 times daily in the dosis of 0.25 for ten days. In 6 patients, the treatment was unsuccessful: in 4 cases the failure was found immediately after the completion of the treatment, in 1 case the disease recurred after about 10 days, and in 1 case after 20 days. It is thought that the dosis of the drug to be used for a course of treatment should be 1.0 daily for 10 days. Moreover, it has been found that the Flagyl therapy is followed, in some cases, by the persistence of a scarse, serous discharge from the urethra, which the author attributes to urethritis post-trichomonadosa; for the treatment of this condition the author proposes urethral cleansing with 0.25% silver nitrate solution.
The authors examined 121 patients males with an effluvium from the urethra. They found in 66.1% of the cases a not-gonorrhoeal inflammation of the urethra. In 6.6% of all the cases of the inflammation of the urethra and 10% of the not-gonorrhoeal inflammations of the urethra were caused by Trichomonas vaginalis. In 1.7% of the cases of the total number of men with an effluvium from the urethra there coexisted the infection with diplococcus of Neisser and Trichomonas vaginalis.
