Six Sigma is a business strategy that enables the all organizations include wood companies to dramatically improve their level through planning and monitoring of everyday business activities. The basis of Six Sigma is a detailed knowledge of customers’ needs, the disciplined use of facts and objective data, statistical analysis and continuous efforts to optimize business processes. The main emphasis is on improving of all processes and human activities, because the quality of processes is a key pillar of the Six Sigma methodology. The active participation of management is necessary for implementing this methodology, as major changes are not possible without the participation of top managers. Management has to create the opportunities for improvement, support and motivate staff in order to best satisfy the customer. Focusing on customers, processes and staff makes from Six Sigma the way of building and developing a new corporate culture and it provides wood organizations with a tool to maintain competitive advantage in a constantly changing market environment.

Celem badań było przeanalizowanie zachowania się azotu podczas procesu kompostowania i zaproponowanie warunków jakie mogłyby zapewnić niską zawartość azotu w produkcie końcowym. Wymagana wartość stężenia azotu w kompoście wykorzystywanym do celów energetycznych może być uzyskana dla danej mieszaniny przez zmniejszenie stężenia azotu w materiale surowym od wartości 3,1% do 2,9% wagowych.

The aim of research was to study the behaviour of nitrogen during composting process and to propose the conditions which are ensuring low content of nitrogen in the final compost. The requirement for nitrogen concentration in compost utilized for energy purposes can be met for given mixture of input raw materials by decreasing of nitrogen concentration in the input raw material from the value of 3.1 wt.% to the value of 2.9 wt.%.

Companies of today must have their processes set in a way to fully use their capacities. It especially means efficient work, slimming of processes, reducing costs on quality but not at the expense of customer satisfaction. Within improving its processes they must carry out such improvements which allow them to eliminate unnecessary waste in the production process. Waste occurs in every enterprise, therefore workers should constantly search for it and eliminate it to increase productivity and reduce costs. In uncovering waste it is important to note the fact that we are searching for issues and not their cause and the guilty party to punish. The ability to identify waste and eliminate its causes may be the source of great improvements. When identifying waste we distinguish between seven types of waste and we use different methods and tools of industrial engineering to eliminate them. Based on many years of experience from organizations analyses conducted through student theses and based on the reconnaissance we carried out within resolving a research task we can state, that they include e.g. 5S, SMED etc.
