The authoress presents decisions which led Warsaw libraries of the Polish Academy of Sciences to join shared cataloging in NUKAT, provide information via WorldCat and Google Scholar and start a shared digital library. Attention is drawn to the advisory role of Anna Paluszkiewicz, followed by the discussion of benefits resulting from cooperation within NUKAT and agreement of the Polish Academy of Sciences institutes on shared automation of their libraries. In the case of the authoress' library benefits in question involved: breaking through the isolation of the library, enhancing the professional skills of its staff, accelerating the process of cataloging its collections, developing professional user services, improving the image of the library staff in the local community, introducing the opportunity of offering new services to the library users.
