A radical shift in the Polish defense industry environment in the beginning of the 1990s has sparked restructuring processes resulting in the multidimensional transformations including ownership changes. The aim of this article is to characterize and analyze the processes of defense firms' conversion from state owned into limited or incorporated companies as well as the privatization of some of them.

The aim of the paper is to study relationships between the processes of absorptive capacity (inter-firm learning) and learning lessons through employee suggestions (intra-firm learning) and identify potential synergies between them. The research interest is focused on investigating the following problems: (1) How do organizations apply external knowledge to support intra-organizational learning processes? (2) How should the employee suggestion system be organized to increase (or build) absorptive capacity? The exploratory case study analysis is applied to answer research questions and achieve the aim of the study. The unit of analysis is constituted by inter-firm and intra-firm learning processes observed in the firm Frauenthal Automotive Toruń (FTO).

The aim of the paper is to study the role of absorptive capacity for the company growth and competitive advantage through open innovations. The case of Frauenthal Automotive Toruń is used to explore how the routines and best practices associated with the firm absorptive capacity contribute to its success. The case study is to validate the thesis that through developing skills to recognize valuable knowledge in the environment, acquire this knowledge, assimilate, transform and develop it companies are able to apply and benefit from open innovations in order to grow and strengthen their competitive advantages. In order to achieve the aim of the paper the following research objectives have been set: (1) to identify the lessons and best practices applied in Frauenthal Automotive Toruń in relation to the company absorptive capacity; (2) to analyze the relationships between the concepts of absorptive capacity and open innovation; (3) to exemplify and discuss the outcomes of the company absorptive capacity in regard to innovations, company growth and competitive advantage.

Paradigm is defined by Kuhn as a scientific achievement which is universally recognised in a given period of time by researchers belonging to a scientific discipline and which provides them with model problems and solutions. As regards management studies there is a debate whether this discipline is still in the pre-paradigm period of its development or it can be perceived as a multi-paradigm field. Making an assumption that there are paradigms in management studies, the statement that leadership is a key factor of the success of an organisation can be recognised as a canon. Recently, along with the development of Positive Organisational Scholarship, the concept of positive leadership has been emerging. The aim of the paper is to consider whether the concept of positive leadership can become a paradigm in management studies.

The aim of the paper is to explore the case of the NUP 2X35 strategic analysis campaign conducted by the Polish Armed Forces (PAF) and to identify lessons and best practices from employing the inclusive network approach to the conduct of strategic foresight analysis. The research process is centred around the following research questions: (1) What are the assumptions of the NUP 2X35 campaign of strategic analysis? (2) How was the strategic foresight analysis conducted? (3) What are the lessons and best practices from the campaign? (4) How can the case illustrate the employment of the concepts of a learning organization, open innovation and absorptive capacity in military organizations? The single case study methodology is employed as a framework for analysis. Data for analysis is collected from personal, participatory observations conducted by the authors, analysis of official documents related to NUP 2X35 released to the public, and opinions about the project expressed by key leaders of the Polish Armed Forces. The NUP 2X35 strategic foresight analysis is an interesting example of employing an inclusive, network approach to bring valuable external (civilian) knowledge into military analysis. The case shows how the armed forces recognize external knowledge, establish inclusive communities of interest grouping together military officers and civilian researchers to absorb this knowledge, how knowledge is assimilated and transformed, and finally exploited for the benefit of the Polish Armed Forces, the national defence sector and NATO. Moreover, the military pays back by increasing the awareness and understanding of defence and national security issues among the society.
