Systems supporting traffic safety require precise information on a vehicle position. The paper contains a proposal for a vehicle localization system based on ultra-wideband (UWB) technology. The system allows for vehicle positioning with submeter accuracy. The paper presents a system concept and an algorithm used for position calculation. The algorithm consists in selection of a system configuration in order to decrease the positioning uncertainty. The system concept was verified with a developed system demonstrator. The paper contains a description of the devices comprising the system. Exemplary results of outdoor demonstrator tests are included and discussed. The tests confirmed efficiency and attractiveness of the proposed solution.
W artykule opisano ultraszerokopasmowy system lokalizacyjny do określania położenia obiektów ruchomych, zrealizowany w ramach zintegrowanego projektu SAFESPOT (6 Program Ramowy UE). Zamieszczono opis koncepcji systemu i przedstawiono konstrukcję wykonanego demonstratora systemu oraz przykładowe wyniki pomiarów wraz z ich krótką dyskusją.

The article deals with ultra wideband positioning system for localization of moving objects. The system was developed within the frames of integrated project "SAFESPOT" (6th Framework Program). The first part of the paper contains description of system concept and realization of the system demonstrator. In the second part exemplary results of system operation with comments are included.
