On radiological examination of 24 052 dogs, urolithiasis was diagnosed in 222 cases (0.92%); in 165 (74.32%) males and in 57 (25.68%) females. Urolithiasis occured most frequently in 5 to 10 years-old animals, and bassets were the most frequently affected (4.76%) among the group of pure breed dogs. In females uroliths were found most often in the urinary bladder in the form of well shadowing objects (phosphate stones). In males tiny stones in the form of gravel or sand were found in the urinary bladder as well as in the urethra. Frequent occurrence of urolithiasis in 1 to 2-years-old dachshunds is worth noting. No significant relationships were found between the localization of uroliths and the breed and age of dogs.

Pulmonic artery stenosis is one of the most common congenital heart abnormalities in dogs. In most publications it is described as the second highest prevalence. Often pulmonic artery stenosis appears as a valvular stenosis. Clinical signs of the disease appear in the first months of life. The reason for this study was evaluating percutaneus valvuloplasty as a method in the treatment of pulmonic artery stenosis in dogs in Poland. Pulmonic valve stenosis was diagnosed in 10 dogs, but only 6 were qualified for percutaneus valvuloplasty surgery. 3 dogs were excluded because of severe heart and internal organ insufficiency. One dog was excluded because of anomalies of the jugular veins which made the surgery impossible. One dog was excluded because of contrastive radiography findings. In 5 dogs balloon valvuloplasty was done without complications. Following surgery gradient pressure between the right ventricle and pulmonic artery declined from 32% to 62%. Conclusions: Percutaneus balloon valvuloplasty of pulmonic artery is a method of choice in the treatment of pulmonic valve stenosis, alleviating clinical signs and in prolonging survival in dogs. Balloon valvuloplasty performed in the symptomatic phase of the disease prolonged life for a few months.

Tumours of the gall bladder constitute 4-5% of tumours originating from the bile duct epithelium. The mucous cystadenoma is a rare benign neoplasm of the gall bladder. This study is the case presentation of a male Scottish terrier, aged 12 years. The dog presented weakness, vomiting, loss of appetite and enlargement of the abdominal cavity. The ultrasound examination showed an enlarged gall bladder, filled with heteroechogenic, amorphic contents. By the walls the contents of the bladder were hypoechogenic, about 0.3cm thick. The laboratory blood tests showed leukocytosis, an increase in AST, ALT, GGTP activity and an over 65-fold increase in ALP. In addition, hyperlipidemia was observed in the dog. The following drugs were administered: amoxycyline, ursodexycholic acid, S-adenosine-L-metionin. The control blood tests were performed every three weeks. During the entire period of the therapy significant differences in ALP and ALT activity were observed. After three weeks since the beginning of the therapy ALP activity decreased to the half of the initial value and the significant improvement of the dog’s clinical condition was noted. After the six-month therapy the administration of ursodexycholic acid was stopped for four months. The significant increase in ALP and ALT was observed in this period. Due to the worsening of biochemical blood parameters the therapy with ursodexycholic acid was restarted. On the account of old age and lack of recovery the dog was subjected to euthanasia and autopsy after an eighteen-month therapy. The postmortem examination revealed the normal size liver. The gall bladder was considerably enlarged. The wall of the bladder was irregularly thickened. Based on the histopathological examination, the mucous cystadenoma of the gall bladder was diagnosed.

The case of a 3-year-old dog with idiopathic constrictive pericarditis has been described. Constrictive pericarditis is an uncommonly reported disease in veterinary medicine. The etiology in many cases is unclear. The most common etiologies of this disorder are viral, pericarditis, renal failure, tuberculosis, radiation therapy, collagen vascular disease, prior pericardiectomy, and idiopathic. Constrictive paricarditis is an outcome of a subacute process which develops signs of a chronic, resistant to medical treatment, progressive and devastating right ventricular heart failure, and its progression depends on hemodynamic circulatory changes.
