The role of philosophical reflections of Stanislaw Zaremba in the context of a dispute on the foundations of the theory of relativity The aim of this paper,is to present the philosophical background of Stanislaw Zaremba's critique of Einstein's theory of relativity. In the 1920s, Zaremba was the most prominent Polish opponent of this theory. His papers influenced some discussions related to Einstein's theory, especially in France and in Poland. This paper takes also into account the development of Zaremba's critique. The analysis of his papers shows that he never became a follower of the Einstein's theory of relativity. Such a statement compels us to confront it with the previous interpretations of Zaremba's thought.

This paper presents Stanislaw Zaremba’s contribution to the philosophy of science. Zaremba is widely known as a mathematican but his philosophical works are less known. His philosophical view of physics and mathematics is strlongly influenced by the French philosophy of science (H. Poincré, P. Duhem). We could also find parallels with D. Hilbert’s view on axiomatization of physics. He proposed some interesting methodological concepts (e.g. distinction between two stages of theory building: creative and axiomatic, which is similar to later famous Reichenbach’s distinction between “the context of discovery and the context of justification.”). Zaremba presented consistent view of the theory of physics as a deductive structure but certain assumptions related to methods of physics are controversial. His philosophical articles were known to continental philosophers of science, mainly French ones. Unfortunately, Polish philosophers of science from the Lvov–Warsaw School only occasionally cited Zaremba’s papers. It seems that members of the Viena Circle did not know Zaremba’s philosophical papers. In this paper I try to show that Zaremba’s philosophical publications are an important, but forgotten, part of Polish philosophy of science before World War II.

Złożoność BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation) jest powodem trudności w poprawnym stosowaniu notacji. celem artykułu jest identyfikacja najważniejszych problemów, jakie sprawia wykorzystanie BPMN w różnych aspektach zarządzania procesami. Autor dokonał przeglądu publikacji związanych z zarządzaniem procesowym, ale niezwiązanych bezpośrednio z analizą systemów informacyjnych, w których wykorzystano do ilustracji BPMN. na tej podstawie zidentyfikowano najczęściej występujące błędy syntaktyczne w modelowaniu za pomocą BPMN i oceniono skalę tego zjawiska. Analiza wykazała, że największe trudności sprawia poprawne zastosowanie przepływów komunikatów oraz zdarzeń typu komunikat, a także rozróżnienie uczestników i wykonawców oraz ich poprawne reprezentowanie na diagramach w postaci basenów i torów.

The complexity of BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation) is the cause of difficulties in the correct use of the notation. This article aims to identify the most important problems of BPMN usage in various aspects of process management. The author conducted a review of articles illustrated with BPMN diagrams and related to process management, but not directly related to the analysis of information systems. On that basis, the most common syntactic errors in BPMN modeling were identified and the scale of that phenomenon was assessed. The analysis showed that the greatest difficulties were associated with the correct application of message flows, message events, as well as with the distinction of participants and actors, and their proper representation in the diagrams in the form of pools and lanes.

W pracy przypomniano filozoficzną polemikę wokół teorii względności, która toczyła się we Lwowie od jesieni 1920 do początków roku 1921. Polemika ta rozgrywała się w kontekście filozoficznych rozważań nad podstawami mechaniki. Wydarzenia te są godne przypomnienia ze względu na ich znaczenie dla rozwoju filozofii przyrody (philosophy In science) w Polsce. Jednym z owoców tej polemiki było zainteresowanie rozwojem pojęć naukowych, które znalazło swój najdoskonalszy wyraz w pracy Zygmunta Zawirskiego L'evolution de la notion du temps (l936) nagrodzonej wówczas nagrodą (Prix E. Rigano) czasopisma Scientia. Opisywana polemika stanowiła ważny etap w recepcji nowoczesnych poglądów naukowych i metodologicznych w Polsce. Natomiast z dzisiejszej perspektywy wydarzenia te są dobrym punktem wyjścia rozważań nad związkami fizyki i filozofii.

This paper reminds a philosophical debate around the theory of relativity, which was taking place in Lwow from autumn of 1920 until beginnings of 1921. This controversy was in the context of researches on foundations of mechanics. These events are worth to be remembered because of their importance to philosophy in science in Poland. One of the results of this controversy was an interest in evolution of scientific notions. It inspired Zygmunt Zawirski's book devolution de la notion du temps (An evolution of the notion of time), which was awarded Prix E. Rigano by prestigious journal Scientia. This controversy was an important stage in reception of modern scientific and methodological concepts in Poland. It is also a good starting point for consideration of relations between physics and philosophy.

Jednym z warunków rozwoju e-społeczeństwa jest zapewnienie powszechnego dostępu do bezprzewodowych usług telekomunikacyjnych. W ostatnich latach obserwujemy właśnie gwałtowny rozwój i upowszechnienie tych technologii. Po okresie szybkiego rozwoju telefonii komórkowej coraz popularniejszy jest bezprzewodowy dostęp do sieci komputerowych i Internetu. Towarzyszy temu rozwój różnych rozwiązań technicznych: kolejne generacje sieci komórkowych, WiFi czy WiMax. Autorzy wskazują na trzy główne czynniki komplikujące wybór i stosowanie sieci bezprzewodowych przez indywidualnych użytkowników: różnorodność i szybkie pojawianie się nowych technologii, dużą ilość dostawców bezprzewodowych usług telekomunikacyjnych oraz różnice między rozwiązaniami technicznymi, organizacyjnymi i prawnymi w poszczególnych krajach.

One of the requirements for developing e-society is to provide a common access to telecommunication systems. In recent years rapid progress and dissemination of wireless technologies has been observed. Swift development of cellular networks was followed by increased popularity of a wireless Internet access. The process is accompanied by the emergence of new generations of cellular networks, Wi-Fi or WiMAX. The authors enumerate three main factors complicating the choice and usage of wireless networks by individual, private users: variety and swift emergence of new technologies, a large number of wireless telecommunication systems providers, and differences between technical, organizational and legal solutions implemented in particular countries. The authors point out that common, inexpensive and uniform access to wireless networks is an important factor in the development of e-society.

W artykule przedstawiono koncepcję tarczy termicznej. Tarcza ta zapewnia prowadzenie strzelań z użyciem celowników noktowizyjnych i termowizyjnych w warunkach nocnych i dziennych bez wymiany tarczy. Obraz tarczy w celownikach nocnych jest widoczny dzięki owietleniu jej przez reflektor podczerwieni. Tarcza jest tak skonstruowana, aby odbity od tarczy strumień promieniowania podczerwonego był skierowany do obiektywu celownika. W porównaniu z dotychczas stosowanymi rozwiązaniami nowa tarcza termiczna ma wiele zalet: jest natychmiast gotowa do działania po oświetleniu przez reflektor bez konieczności dugotrwałego podgrzewania, zużywa znacznie mniej energii i cechuje ją większa żywotność. Projekt jest obecnie na etapie badań prototypu tarczy.

A concept of a thermal target is presented in the paper. The same target may be used for firings with night-vision and thermo-vision sights at day and night conditions. A picture of the target is visible for it is lit by an infrared spotlight. The design of the target makes the beam of reflected infrared radiation hit the optics of a sight. The new thermal target has many advantages comparing to existing solution: it is ready to operate straightforwardly after lighting by the spotlight, without any need for a long time preheating, the consumption of energy is significantly reduced, and its life cycle is increased. The project is currently in the phase of testing the target’s prototype.

The article deals with the issue of structural and cohesion funding by the European Union in Poland. Although all funds earmarked for the first programming period 2004-2006 were allocated, the process posed certain problems. Therefore, in our paper we point to the weaknesses of the system and some of the hindrances to efficient fund allocation: faulty institutional and legal framework, bureaucracy, corruption and personnel deficits. We base our findings on a research incorporating 150 in-depth interviews carried out in four regions of Poland. Referring to Niklas Luhmann's theory of autopoietic systems, we present a sketch of an unevenly differentiated political system, in which administration and politics prevail over the underprivileged public, incapable of counteracting trends of politicization and bureaucratization. By showing the evolution and reproduction of the system, we relate to its deficits and their impact on the future use of the EU funds inflow.

The paper contains the results of investigation on application of thin layer chromatography (TLC) for determination of opiates and cannabinols. The rules of separation of components contained in extracts of Cannabis and the preparations of opiates were specified. The rules of identification and marks of contains in them psychotropic substances were also specified. Detection limit and errors of the method were estimated. Propose analytical solutions were verified during an analysis of commercial samples of opiates and measurements of contents ∆⁹-THC in Cannabis.

Artykuł zawiera opis istniejącej w Jastrzębskiej Spółce Węglowej SA infrastruktury informatycznej oraz opis narzędzi wspomagających kształtowanie bezpieczeństwa w górnictwie opracowanych w Instytucie Techniki Górniczej KOMAG. Przedstawiona została konfiguracja sprzętowa i programowa do monitorowania parametrów środowiska górniczego oraz parametrów pracy maszyn i urządzeń, ewidencji pozyskanych danych i ich automatycznego przesyłu. Struktury maszyn i urządzeń są odwzorowane w systemie klasy ERP Szyk2. Zarysowano koncepcję integracji istniejących w JSW SA rozwiązań sprzętowych i programowych z narzędziami wspomagającymi kształtowanie i upowszechnianie bezpiecznych metod pracy.

The paper contains a description of the existing IT infrastructure in the Jastrzębie Coal Company and a description of tools supporting the development of work safety in the mining industry developed in the Institute of Mining Technique KOMAG. The article presents the configuration of hardware and software for monitoring of parameters of mining environment and the parameters of operation of mining machines and equipment, recording of obtained data and their automatic transmission. The structures of machines and equipment are recorded as images in the system of ERP Szyk2 class. The concept of integration of the existing hardware and software solutions in JSW with the tools supporting development and promotion of safe work practices has been outlined.
