Family determinants of the individual personal identity’s development This article aim at analyzing particular, including developmental, emotional and functional, aspects of family life, which may influence the development of specific statuses of personal identities of young family members. During the period of adolescence, the process of “de-ideologizing” is of great significance – that is a change of childhood identity, based on the identification with parents, into an ongoing process of personal identity’s development. This process of “de-ideologizing” may lead to disruption of the inner balance concerning self-concept of a young individual. As the consequence, those transformations determine a stronger need for autonomy as well as clear searching (exploration) and accepting (commitment) of the system of such values, beliefs and roles, which are essential components of self-concept and personal identity. They are in agreement with appraisals formed by a young person concerning her/his abilities, skills or preferences in particular domains. When a developmental aspect is considered, dividing a youth period into stages is crucial. During those phases an individual analyzes problems concerning spheres as well as statuses of his/her identity. A key factor, as far as the process of exploration and commitment is considered, is a style of interaction between members of a family, which includes both, individual and collective (family) perspective in analyzing various problematical subjects concerning particular members of a family. The influence of a child-parent attachment style on the process of identity statuses’ development of adolescents should also be emphasized, including, especially essential, being accepted with approval by their parents.
