The Author of the article shows the role of the Catholic Action in the society threatened by secularisation. At first he discusses the concept of secularisation itself and presents its major manifestations. Next he characterises the primary features of the polish Catholicism and its position to the phenomenon of secularisation. In the last part the author draws attention to the role of the Catholic Action, which opposing the tendencies to abandon the spirit of the Gospel, has become „the moral conscious of society” in Poland.

The Roman-Catholic Archdiocese of Lviv participated actively in the Publishing and media initiatives of the Polish Church in the interwar period. Particularly creditable in this area are Towarzystwo Wydawnicze „Biblioteka Religijna” [Publishing Society „Religious Library”], launched in Lviv in 1921 by the priests: Teofil Długosz and Ignacy Chwirut. The society published scientific treatises and popular works, religious literature and church journals targeted at diocesan and domestic audiences. Among the latter, there were titles such as „Przegląd Teologiczny” [Theological Review] or „Collectanea Theologica”. The Catholic publishing movement in the Archdiocese of Lviv also engaged Catholic Action, which recognized publishing to be an effective tool in their efforts at formation and preparing their members for apostolic mission. The Lviv Institute of Higher Religious Education was also involved in publishing activities. In the interwar period, there were about 40 Catholic journals issued in the Archdiocese: official, scientific-theological, the ones issued by ecclesiastical organizations and associations, parish-based, devotional, ascetic as well as religious calendars. In its evangelising mission, the Church also relied on the radio. This means was broadly used in the Archdiocese and in the whole country by the Secretariat for the Apostolate of the Sick, headed by Rev. Michał Rękas. Their broadcasts were addressed to the sick and pain-stricken. Film was also becoming a more and more popular medium, which was largely due to the efforts of Catholic Action and the Conventual Franciscans, who launched a cinema called „PAX” in Lviv.

W ruchu wydawniczym i medialnym w Kościele w Polsce, w 20-leciu międzywojennym, czynnie uczestniczyła archidiecezja lwowska obrządku łacińskiego. Szczególne zasługi na tym polu miało Towarzystwo Wydawnicze „Biblioteka Religijna", założone we Lwowie w 1921 r. przez księży: Teofila Długosza i Ignacego Chwiruta. Wydawało ono dzieła naukowe i popularne, literaturę religijną oraz czasopisma kościelne o zasięgu diecezjalnym i krajowym, a wśród nich „Przegląd Teologiczny" „Collectanea Thcologica". Katolicki ruch wydawniczy w archidiecezji rozwijała także Akcja Katolicka, która widziała w nim skuteczne narzędzie w dziele formacji i apostolstwa swoich członków, a także Instytut Wyższej Kultury Religijnej we Lwowie. W latach 1918-1939 ukazywało się w archidiecezji ok. 40 czasopism katolickich: urzędowe, teologiczno-naukowe, organizacji i stowarzyszeń kościelnych, parafialne, dewocyjne, ascetyczne i kalendarze. Kościół w swej misji ewangelizacyjnej wykorzystywał także radio. Ten środek medialny wykorzystywał na szeroką skalp, w archidiecezji i w kraju, Sekretariat Apostolstwa Chorych, kierowany przez ks. Michała Rękasa, prowadząc audycje dla chorych i cierpiących. Coraz bardziej popularny stawał się także film, a duże zasługi w jego upowszechnianiu miała Akcja Katolicka i franciszkanie konwentualni, którzy we Lwowie prowadzili kino „PAX".
