The article presents internal transport system and principles of transport organization, in order to indicate that the effectiveness of material flow management in a warehouse depends on the transport strategy used by a manufacturing plant. In the paper different means of transport enabling movement of components and semi-finished products are described. From the perspective of industrial plants, minimizing the number of transport resources and maximizing the use of devices needed to operate the storage process play an important role in effective implementation of logistics processes. At the same time, it is necessary to optimize the transport processes in terms of both time and costs. In the paper the possibility to meet these requirements on the example of a high-bay warehouse is verified, based on simulation of loading and unloading operations. Indicators intended to assess the quality of storage process are presented and used to determine the optimal number of transport resources required to operate the proposed warehouse. The results obtained during simulations are the basis for discussion on the influence of a number of transport resources on operating time of the analyzed warehouse.

Przedstawiono zmodyfikowaną metodę nadążnego sterowania produkcją, którą można wykorzystać w wielowersyjnym procesie sekwencjonowania karoserii na wydziale lakierni. Badano rzeczywistą strukturę lakierni wraz z buforem (Car Sequencing Problem 4.0). Głównymi celami badań były minimalizacja liczby przezbrojeń wynikających ze zmian kolorów oraz synchronizacja tych przezbrojeń z wymuszonym, okresowym czyszczeniem pistoletów malarskich.

A modified method of follow-up production control that can be used in a multi-version car body sequencing process at the paint shop department is presented. The actual structure of the paint shop along with the buffer was subjected to tests (Car Sequencing Problem 4.0). The main goals of the research were to minimize the number of changeovers resulting from color changes and to synchronize these changeovers with forced, periodic cleaning of paint guns.

The paper presents a Car Sequencing Problem, widely considered in the literature. The issue considered by the researchers is only a reduced problem in comparison with the problem in real automotive production. Consequently, a new concept, called Paint Shop 4.0., is considered from the viewpoint of a sequencing problem. The paper is a part of the previously conducted research, identified as Car Sequencing Problem with Buffers (CSPwB), which extended the original problem to a problem in a production line equipped with buffers. The new innovative approach is based on the ideas of Industry 4.0 and the buffer management system. In the paper, sequencing algorithms that have been developed so far are discussed. The original Follow-up Sequencing Algorithm is presented, which is still developed by the authors. The main goal of the research is to find the most effective algorithm in terms of minimization of painting gun changeovers and synchronization necessary color changes with periodic gun cleanings. Carried out research shows that the most advanced algorithm proposed by the authors outperforms other tested methods, so it is promising to be used in the automotive industry.
