The article discusses the names of Escape Rooms in Poland. The study shows that the names of Escape Rooms do not serve only their primary, identifying-differential function, but also a number of secondary roles, for instance, the semantic or localising ones. It has been demonstrated that the features most commonly used by the name-givers are the characteristics of the named rooms.

Artykuł poświęcony jest nazwom własnym pokoi zagadek w Polsce. Niektóre ze zbadanych chrematonimów pełnią jedynie swoją funkcję prymarną (identyfikacyjno-dyferencjacyjną), a inne również funkcje sekundarne. Wśród drugiej grupy funkcji wyróżniono funkcję semantyczną, lokalizacyjną, ekspresywną, poetycką, aluzyjną i impresywną. Niektóre z funkcji sekundarnych pełni wiele nazw, a inne tylko kilka. Najbardziej produktywnymi cechami motywacyjnymi dla zbadanych nazw okazały się cechy ich denotatów.

Seventy-five years after the novel The Hobbit was published, the first part of its film adaptation, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, ap-peared in cinemas. The film trilogy (the second and third parts enti-tled The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies respectively) differs from the novel in a number of as-pects, one of which is its onomastic stratum. The main aim of this article is to analyse the functions served by the characters’ proper names in the novel and in the film trilogy and to compare these func-tions. The examination is based on the naming act in the novel, on the basis of which eight relations a name can enter into and thirteen roles it can serve have been identified.

Siedemdziesiąt pięć lat po publikacji powieści Hobbit, czyli tam i z powrotem na ekranach kin pojawiła się pierwsza część jej filmowej adaptacji zatytułowana Hobbit: Niezwykła podróż. Filmowa trylogia (druga i trzecia część zatytułowane Hobbit: Pustkowie Smauga oraz Hobbit: Bitwa Pięciu Armii) różni się od powieści na wielu płaszczy-znach, w tym w warstwie onomastycznej. Głównym celem tego artyku-łu jest studium funkcji nazw własnych postaci w powieści oraz w trylogii filmowej oraz ich analiza porównawcza. Badanie zostało oparte na akcie nazewniczym w powieści, w oparciu o który wyróżnionych zostało osiem relacji w jakie wejść może nazwa własna oraz trzy-naście funkcji jakie może w tych relacjach pełnić.

Celem artykułu jest analiza humorystycznych użyć antroponimów w serialu telewizyjnym Jak poznałem waszą matkę. Za podstawę pojawienia się w badanych nazwach elementu humorystycznego uznano procesy apelatywizacji i onimizacji prowadzące do niespójności w odbiorze onimów. W wyniku przeprowadzonej analizy opisano i pogrupowano tematycznie osiemdziesiąt przypadków sytuacyjnej onimizacji i apelatywizacji. W artykule poddano analizie funkcję humorystyczną antroponimów w Jak poznałem waszą matkę.

The aim of the article is to analyse the use of humour in anthroponyms in How I Met Your Mother. It has been claimed in the analysis that it is the processes of appellativization and onymization which produce the humorous effects, as these processes constitute the basis for the emergence of the incongruity in the reception of the proper names. The collected material is examined in thematic groups.

Artykuł poświęcony jest funkcjom nazw własnych postaci w drugiej części Cyklu o Straży Terry’ego Pratchetta oraz w jej polskim przekładzie. Głównym celem jest zbadanie co w polskim tłumaczeniu dzieje się z funkcjami pojawiającymi się w oryginale, czy zostają zachowane, utracone, zmienione czy naddane. Ponadto zidentyfikowane zostają przyczyny tych zmian. Analiza jest oparta na zaproponowanej w 2017 roku teorii dwóch aktów, która dzieli funkcje nazw własnych bohaterów na stałe i chwilowe.

The article is devoted to a comparative analysis of the functions served by proper names of the characters in the second part of the City Watch Cycle by Terry Pratchett and in the Polish translation of this novel. Its main aim is to examine what happens with the functions served in the original and in the translation. Are they preserved, lost, changed or added? Moreover, the reasons for the changes are identified. The analysis is based on the theory of two acts (proposed in 2017), which divides the functions into two groups: permanent and temporary.

The main aim of this article is to present a new method of analysing the expressive function of characters’ proper names in a novel. Although this role was identified over half a century ago, it has not received scholars’ attention and nearly no research has been done to advance its study. The onomastic material examined in this paper comes from the “Harry Potter” series and includes over one hundred and thirty “nomina propria” that serve the expressive function either from the moment of naming or in particular acts of using the name.
