Reliability analysis of bearing capacity of square footing on soil with strength anisotropy due to layered microstructure

The paper deals with reliability analysis of square footing on soil with strength anisotropy. The strength of the soil has been described with identified anisotropic strength criterion dedicated to geomaterials with layered microstructure. The analysis assumes dip angle α and azimuth angle β which define direction of lamination of the structure to be random variables with given probability density functions. Bearing capacity being a function of these variables is approximated based on results of deterministic simulations obtained for variety of orientations. The weighted regression method by Kaymaz and McMahon within the framework of Response Surface Method is used for the approximation. As a result of analysis, global factor of safety that corresponds to assumed value of probability of failure is determined. The value of the safety factor denotes the ratio between the value of the design load and the mean value of bearing capacity which is needed to reduce the probability of failure to the acceptable level. The procedure of calculating the factor has been presented for two different cases. In the first case, no information about lamination direction of the soil has been provided and thus all the orientations are assumed to be equally probable (uniform distribution). In the second case, statistical information including mean, variance and assumed probability distribution for both α and β angle is known. For the latter case, using results obtained for few different values of mean of angle α, also the influence of strength anisotropy on the value of global factor of safety is shown.

Failure criterion for brick masonry: a micro-mechanics approach

The paper deals with the formulation of failure criterion for an in-plane loaded masonry. Using micro-mechanics approach the strength estimation for masonry microstructure with constituents obeying the Drucker–Prager criterion is determined numerically. The procedure invokes lower bound analysis: for assumed stress fields constructed within masonry periodic cell critical load is obtained as a solution of constrained optimization problem. The analysis is carried out for many different loading conditions at different orientations of bed joints. The performance of the approach is verified against solutions obtained for corresponding layered and block microstructures, which provides the upper and lower strength bounds for masonry microstructure, respectively. Subsequently, a phenomenological anisotropic strength criterion for masonry microstructure is proposed. The criterion has a form of conjunction of Jaeger critical plane condition and Tsai-Wu criterion. The model proposed is identified based on the fitting of numerical results obtained from the microstructural analysis. Identified criterion is then verified against results obtained for different loading orientations. It appears that strength of masonry microstructure can be satisfactorily described by the criterion proposed.

This paper looks at the analysis of a square footing located in layered geomaterial is presented. The ground material is modeled on an elastic-perfectly plastic medium. The plasticity function for the material is in form of the anisotropic strength criterion identified by Kawa and Lydzba (2008). The boundary-value problem of the Bering capacity of the footing is solved using the numerical implementation of a material model with the FLAC3D program. The numerical implementation of a material model allows one to solve the boundary-value problem in three-dimensional space. By using the two orientation parameters defined in the paper, it is possible to model a media with any spatial orientation of stratification plane. Results of the bearing capacity of the footing located in layered geomaterial are presented in the paper in two different ways. For the chosen orientations of the stratification plane development of the plastic zones it is presented on two perpendicular cross-sections of ground. The numerical values of the critical load has been also presented as a function of the two parameters of the orientation of the stratification direction.

W pracy przedstawiono analizę nośności gruntu z mikrostrukturą warstwową pod kwadratową stopą fundamentową. Materiał podłoża został zamodelowany jako ciągły ośrodek sprężysto-plastyczny. Funkcję plastyczności przyjęto w postaci anizotropowego kryterium wytrzymałości geomateriałów z mikrostrukturą warstwową zaproponowanego przez Kawę i Łydżbę (2008). Zagadnienie brzegowe nośności granicznej stopy fundamentowej rozwiązano, po uprzedniej implementacji numerycznej modelu materiału, w programie FLAC 3D. Implementacja numeryczna modelu ośrodka pozwoliła na rozwiązanie zagadnienia brzegowego w przestrzeni trójwymiarowej. Poprzez określenie dwóch, zdefiniowanych w artykule, parametrów kątowych zamodelować można ośrodek o dowolnej przestrzennej orientacji kierunku uwarstwienia. W pracy wyniki nośności granicznej podłoża uwarstwionego pod stopą fundamentową prezentowane są na dwa różne sposoby. Dla wybranych orientacji kierunku uwarstwienia rozwój stref plastycznych przedstawiono na przekrojach podłoża w dwóch prostopadłych kierunkach. Przedstawiono również ilościowe wyniki nośności granicznej stopy w postaci funkcji dwóch zmiennych - zdefiniowanych kątów orientacji kierunku uwarstwienia.

The aim of the study was to present the conditions for development of food production and distribution of organic products in Podkarpackie voivodeship and to present the opinions of consumers representing various local communities from this part of the country about purchased eco-food. To achieve this objective, a survey was conducted using direct interview method. The study involved a total of 700 residents of Podkarpackie gathered through a purposive sample. The market of organic food products is a future-oriented segment of the food market. Consumers from Podkarpackie voivodeship are of the opinion that increasing the supply of eco-products on the market in this part of the country should apply especially to dairy products, fruits and vegetables, honey, herbs, meat, and bread. The development of the organic food market will be stimulated by, among other things, the increase in demand that results from raising the level of consumer awareness of quality of organic food and its impact on health.

Celem opracowania było zaprezentowanie warunków rozwoju produkcji i dystrybucji spożywczych produktów ekologicznych w woj. podkarpackim oraz opinii konsumentów reprezentujących różne środowiska lokalne tej części kraju, na temat nabywanych ekoproduktów żywnościowych. Dla realizacji powyższego celu przeprowadzono badania ankietowe, a jako narzędzia badawczego użyto kwestionariusza ankiety. Objęto nimi łącznie 700 mieszkańców woj. podkarpackiego. Dobór próby do badania był doborem celowym. Rynek ekologicznych produktów żywnościowych to przyszłościowy segment rynku artykułów spożywczych. Konsumenci z woj. podkarpackiego są zdania, że zwiększenie podaży ekoproduktów wytwarzanych i oferowanych w tej części kraju powinno dotyczyć zwłaszcza nabiału, owoców i warzyw, miodu, ziół, wędlin oraz pieczywa. Rozwój rynku żywności ekologicznej będzie stymulowany między innymi wzrostem popytu, który wynika z podnoszenia poziomu wiedzy konsumentów na temat jakości żywności ekologicznej i jej wpływu na stan zdrowia.

Background: The study investigated the analgesic effectiveness, the reduction in the intake of painkillers and an improvement in physical activity after local cryotherapy in tennis elbow (TE). Material/Methods: The research group comprised patients of the Physiotherapy Patients diagnosed with so-called tennis elbow were referred to physical therapy treatments by specialist doctors. 34 patients were examined (26 women, 8 men), aged 36-59 years, who were then divided into two groups: Group X (17 persons) – treated with local cryotherapy (10 treatments over 2 weeks), Group Y (17 persons ) – the control group with no therapeutic procedures conducted for a period of 2 weeks. Materials for the quantitative analysis in the study were obtained by means of the Laitinen questionnaire and the VAS scale. Results: Results of the analysis showed significant differences between the intensity of pain experienced by the subjects, the range of received analgesics, and the difference in physical activity before the therapy and after its completion. Tests of scheduled comparisons showed a substantial decline in values among the subjects for both the combined therapy (p = 0.000) and local cryotherapy (p = 0.000). Conclusions: The analgesic effect of the combined therapy and local cryotherapy resulted in reducing the intake of analgesics and an improvement in physical activity of patients TE.

W pracy omawiane są właściwości wytrzymałościowe periodycznego kompozytu warstwowego. Analizowany jest ośrodek dwuskładnikowy, którego wytrzymałość składników opisuje kryterium Coulomba-Mohra. Wytrzymałość kompozytu, reprezentującą nośność mikrostruktury, określa się wykorzystując metodę homogenizacji. Przedstawia się procedurę numerycznego określania "kierunkowej nośności mikrostruktury" oraz , dla wybranych wartości parametrów mikrostruktury, uzyskane wyniki. Szczególną uwagę poświęca się klasie kompozytów o "parametrach nieuporządkowanych" ze względu na ich niezwykłą właściwość, tj.: przy pewnych wartościach ciśnienia okólnego wytrzymałość kompozytu jest wyższa niż każdego ze składników.

This paper investigates strength anisotropy of layered composite. A two-component material is considered. The failure criterion of both components is postulated to be the Coulomb-Mohr one. Formulation of the problem bases on homogenization approach. Numerical procedure as well as results obtained are presented. The case termed as composite with "disordered parameters" plays the most important role in the consideration performed. This class is characterized by extra-ordinary strength property: strength of microstructure is higher then strength of each component separately, for some values of confining pressure.

W artykule przedstawiono zastosowanie anizotropowego kryterium wytrzymałości materiałów warstwowych do oceny zabezpieczenia skarpy wykonanej w ile warwowym. Wykorzystywane kryterium to koniunkcja warunku Pariseau i równania płaszczyzny krytycznej. W pracy przedstawiono uproszczoną procedurę identyfikacji kryterium dla iłów warwowych. Problem brzegowy zabezpieczenia skarpy rozwiązano wykorzystując środowisko FLAC oraz własną implementację numeryczną kryterium. Wyniki przedstawione w postaci pól przemieszczeń oraz wykresu siły w kotwi w funkcji kąta upadu warstw w ośrodku pokazują bardzo silny wpływ anizotropii wytrzymałości gruntu na rozwiązanie zadania.

Application of anisotropic strength criterion to the problem of slope protection assessment is presented in the paper. Criterion used for analysis is a conjunction of anisotropic Pariseau criterion and critical plane equation. A simplified procedure of identification for varve clay is presented. The boundary-value problem is solved using FLAC environment together with author's numerical implemented of criterion. Results in form of displacement vector fields and graph of axial force in anchor tie depending on stratification angle show strong influence of soil strength anisotropy on the solution of the problem.

Development of rural areas in agricultural context requires well functioning institutional environment. Institutions serve many important functions of fundamental importance for development of farms. The importance of institutions increases along with development of agriculture. They support and stimulate changes in agricultural farms, helping to implement innovative solutions and adjusting them to European Union standards. In the paper there was presented institutional environment and its impact on development of arable farms. The influence of institutional environment was characterized by defining the role of state interventionism, assessment of municipality's public activities as well as agricultural chambers, which represent farmers. The research was conducted in the year 2008, in a form of direct interview with farm owners, with the usage of anonymous survey questionnaire. The research was conducted on the sample of 150 farmers.

Zmiany w otoczeniu jednostek terytorialnych, w tym zwłaszcza postęp technologiczny, sprawiły, że tradycyjne formy komunikacji marketingowej zostały wzbogacone o nowe funkcje, umożliwiające nawiązywanie dialogu oraz zachęcające odbiorców przekazu do dzielenia się wiedzą i pomysłami. Celem artykułu badawczego jest przedstawienie kierunków zmian w komunikacji marketingowej jednostek terytorialnych w kontekście stworzenia mieszkańcom możliwości współudziału w tym procesie. W artykule, na tle rozważań teoretycznych, zaprezentowano wyniki badań ankietowych przeprowadzonych w marcu 2017 roku wśród 300 mieszkańców miasta Rzeszowa. Z badań wynika, że mieszkańcy ocenili na średnim poziomie swoje zaangażowanie w proces komunikacji marketingowej Rzeszowa, są oni jednak świadomi możliwości, jakie stwarza im miasto w tym zakresie. Wykonana analiza statystyczna wykazała spadek zainteresowania komunikacją marketingową wraz z wiekiem respondentów.

The changes in the environment of territorial units, especially technological advances, have made traditional forms of marketing communication enriched with new functions, enabling dialogue and encouraging message recipients to share knowledge and ideas. The aim of this paper is to present the directions of changes in marketing communication of territorial units in the context of creating possibilities of inhabitants’ participation in this process. In the article, based on theoretical deliberations, the results of a survey conducted in March 2017 among 300 inhabitants of the city of Rzeszów were presented. The research showed that residents rated their involvement in the marketing communication process at an average level in Rzeszów, yet they are aware of the opportunities that the city offers in this regard. Statistical analysis showed a decrease in interest in marketing communications along with age of respondents.

Изменения в среде территориальных единиц, в том числе, в особенности, технологический прогресс, привели к тому, что традиционные формы маркетинговой коммуникации обогатились новыми функциями, которые дают возможность устанавливать диалог и поощряют адресатов информации делиться знаниями и идеями. Цель статьи - представить направления изменений в маркетинговой коммуникации территориальных единиц в контексте создания жителям возможности причастности к этому процессу. В статье, на фоне теоретических рассуждений, представили результаты опросов, проведенных в марте 2017 среди 300 жителей г. Жешува. Опросы показывают, что жители оценили на среднем уровне свое вовлечение в процесс маркетинговой коммуникации Жешува, но они отдают себе отчет в возможностях, какие им предоставляет город в этом отношении. Проведенный статистический анализ указал снижение заинтересованности в маркетинговой коммуникации вместе с возрастом респондентов.

Jedną z kluczowych kwestii dla przedsiębiorstw wytwarzających specjalistyczne ponadnormatywne wyroby, jest konieczność zapewnienia ich przewozu. Transport ładunków ponadnormatywnych należy do najbardziej skomplikowanych czynności realizowanych przez przedsiębiorstwa spedycyjno-transportowe. W artykule porównano możliwości zastosowania różnych rodzajów transportu dla przewozu ładunków ponadnormatywnych. Porównano różne sposoby transportu w oparciu o analizę kryteriów doboru środków transportu w przypadku ładunków ponadnormatywnych. Decydujący wpływ na wybór sposobu transportu mają: podatność transportowa przemieszczanych ładunków, wymagania czasowe dotyczące dostawy oraz koszt transportu. Przeanalizowano warunki transportu drogowego, kolejowego, morskiego oraz śródlądowego ładunków ponadnormatywnych. Przedstawiono aspekty logistyczne, które należy brać pod uwagę podczas przewozów tych ładunków. Zaproponowano nowoczesne rozwiązania logistyczne. Właściwy dobór i organizacja pracy środków transportowych zaangażowanych przy przewozach ładunków ponadnormatywnych jest głównym przedmiotem analizy w przedstawionym artykule.

The transportation of loads special to the most the compiled actions realized through forwarding enterprises. The possibility of use of different kind's transportation in article was compared for transport of loads the special articles. The different ways of transportation were compared in support about analysis of criterions of selection centers transportation in case of loads special. There are taken under attention the conditions of road transportation, railway transportation, sea transportation and inland waterways transport. It logistic aspects were introduced was which one should take under attention during transports these loads. Modern logistic solutions were proposed. The engaged near transports of loads the proper selection and organization of work of forwarding centers special loads is in introduced article the main object of analysis.

The article is a characterization of local products, creating an image of Krzeszów, Rudnik and Ulanów municipalities of the Nisko county, in the Podkarpackie province. The study of 500 inhabitants showed that knowledge of these products is varied. The best known were: plum jam from Krzeszów, wickerwork from Rudnik, and rafting bread and rafting tradition cultivated by inhabitants of Ulanów.
