The self-assembly and electrochemical properties of mixed self-assembled monolayer (SAMs) of 4-methoxy-4_-(N-(2__-mercaptoethyl)amino)carbonyl)azobenzene (C1AzoC2SH) and 1-butanethiol (C4SH) were studied on the gold electrode by cyclic voltammetry. Usually the azobenzene groups exhibit very sluggish electron-transfer kinetics in the densely packed films. The alkanethiol as the spacer molecule was introduced to the azobenzene monolayer system to weaken the intermolecular interaction in order to enhance the electrochemical activity of the azobenzene group. Under the different molar ratios of C1AzoC2SH and C4SH we obtain a different electrochemical response and an apparent surface electrochemical rate constant. The experimental results suggested that the azobenzene groups exhibit a higher electrochemical activity in the mixed SAMs systems.

The shipboard power system (SPS) supplies energy to electric loads on ships. If the power supply of SPS is interrupted by a fault, it is important to restore the power system as soon as possible. Many approaches have been taken on the service restoration of SPS, but most of them use a centralized method and cannot meet the Navy's needs for fight-through survivability and high reliability. This paper improves the mathematical programming method proposed in the early literature and presents a multi-agent system framework performing system restoration for Navy ship. In the MAS, all agents have the ability to collect information, process data and make reasonable decisions independently according to different environment. The MAS is implemented based on Java Agent development framework (JADE). The simulation results of typical SPS service restoration cases demonstrated the feasibility and the advantages of the proposed MAS.

To better understand molecular mechanism underlying the difference between self-rooting juvenile clones and donor clones, a proteomic approach was used to profile protein changes in the latex between self-rooting juvenile clones and donor clones. Total soluble proteins were extracted from latex in self-rooting juvenile clones and donor clones. Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) was used to identify proteins that were differentially expressed in self-rooting juvenile clones and donor clones and image analysis was used to determine which proteins were up- or down-regulated. Twenty-four differentially expressed protein spots were identified by matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry. Among the 24 proteins identified, 13 proteins were up-regulated, 11 proteins were decreased in self-rooting juvenile clones. These proteins were classified as carbohydrate and energy metabolism, secondary metabolism, signal translocation, transcriptional regulation-related, protein synthesis and degradation, transport, nucleoside acid process, lipid metabolism. Perhaps, the present study contributes towards an understanding of the molecular mechanism underlying the difference between self-rooting juvenile clones and donor clones.

The effects of short-chain alcohols on the phase behavior, solubilities and solubilization ability in the microemulsion systems cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) or cetylpyridinium bromide (CPB) or 1-hexadecyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide (C16mimBr)/1-propanol or 1-butanol or 1-pentanol/n-octane/brine were investigated with the d-g fishlike phase diagram. The phase diagram was affected greatly by alcohols, and the magnitude of the middle phase region in the fish body is in the order 1-propanol greated than greated than 1-butanol greated than1-pentanol. With the carbon chain length becoming shorter, more alcohol molecules are needed to balance the interfacial layer. Nearly all surfactants enter into the interfacial layer and little remains in aqueous or oleic phase. However, alcohols dissolve in the aqueous and oleic phases, besides they enter into the interfacial layer. The solubilization ability of the microemulsion system is mainly affected by the alcohols and the order is 1-pentanol greated than 1-butanol greated than 1-propanol.

Endogenous indole-3-acid (IAA) and zeatin (t-Z) may play important roles in the dwarfing mechanisms of rootstocks. The concentrations of IAA and t-Z, as well as the expression of the genes PIN1 and IPT3 were measured in leaves, barks, and roots from nine treatments: M9, Malus X micromalus Makino, Red Fuji/M9/Malus X micromalus, Red Fuji/M9, Red Fuji/Malus X micromalus, M9 rootstock substitution above and below the original graft union, interstock bridging, and interstock bark substitution of M9. The results show that there were greater amounts of t-Z and expressions of IPT3 in invigorated trees (Malus X micromalus and Red Fuji/Malus X micromalus) when compared with dwarfing trees (M9, Red Fuji/M9/Malus X micromalus and Red Fuji/M9) during the period of fast shoot growth (early June to mid-August). Moreover, the variation of IAA contents and PIN1 expressions shared the same pattern with t-Z contents and IPT3 expressions in all the tested locations. IAA content was extremely high in the bark of M9 interstock when compared with that of the scion and the rootstock, yet PIN1 expression in corresponding tissues was very low. After M9 rootstock were substituted above and below the original graft union, contents of t-Z, IAA, and PIN1 expressions in leaves and branch-barks recovered gradually to standard tree levels. However, there is no significant difference between the two treatments. We conclude graft union has no obvious influence on hormone transport. After M9 interstock and its bark were substituted, the hormone measurement of every index was consistent with that of rootstock substitution.

The phase behavior and solubilization of the quaternary system AEO-9/AS/n- butanol /alkane/NaCl solution were investigated with delta-gamma and epsilon-beta fishlike phase diagrams. Two kinds of diagrams were plotted and compared in their shapes, HLB plane equations and solubilization power representations. Their HLB plane equations were used to calculate the composition of the hydrophile-lipophile balanced interfacial layer. It is found that the synergism between AEO-9 and AS in the inter facial layer in solubilization power exists. The influences of oil and aqueous medium on the epsilon-beta fishlike phase diagram were also discussed.
