In the past, human intervention in water relations focused mainly on draining wetlands and lakes. In general, this was aimed at increasing the area of agricultural land or creating new settlement areas. In the case of lakes, the consequence of such actions was to reduce their level and in many cases to completely dry them. The maintenance of appropriate, assumed environmental conditions requires, in the case of drainage systems, maintaining the high efficiency of the drainage system, which is time- and cost-intensive. Neglecting such an approach, or intentional actions in this respect may lead to the restoration (to a different spatial extent) of drained lakes. The examples presented in the paper indicate that this process is quite common. In the context of the need to expand the water retention of the country, a detailed search of such reservoirs should be carried out and their renaturalization should be considered.

The work presents bathymetric changes and changes of area of 67 lakes located within the Pomeranian Lake District in northern Poland. On the basis of bathymetric plans and topographic maps, an analysis was carried out focused on changes in bathymetry and area lakes within a period of over 60 years. The total area of the first group of lakes diminished by 5.4% and the volume of lake basins – by 13.1%. The fact that the change in volume is higher than the change in area, which was observed, clearly demonstrates that the decline of natural water reservoirs is caused not only by the shrinking coastline, but also by the phenomenon of shallowing of lake basins. The decrease in the volume of lake basins also negatively affects the lakes’ natural resistance to degradation. Moreover, the changes in the total area of all lakes throughout the 20 th century were also analyzed and it was found that the total area diminished by 8.0%.

On the basis of hydrographic maps in the scale 1:50,000, an inventory of crenological objects in the lower part of the Vistula basin up to the Drwęca river basin in the south was made. The total number of these objects in the analyzed area is 308, with the highest number of solid sources – 161, followed by leakages – 125 and periodic sources – 17. The total efficiency of all outflows is very low, as it was estimated at 0.075 m3∙s–1. The most efficient source reaches only 1.0 dm3∙s–1, and only a few 0.7 dm3∙s–1.

The paper presents results of bathymetric measurements performed on three crater lakes located in the “Meteoryt Morasko” reserve in west Poland. The maximum depth of the largest of the analysed lakes (1695 m2) was determined to amount to 2.6 m. The parameters of the lake (surface area, depth, etc.) are largely determined by a ditch dug through the crater in the north-western part of the lake, affecting the maximum water volume accumulated in the lake.

The article presents thermal-oxygen conditions of Lake Białe Włodawskie in the warm half-year (May–October) in the years 2012–2015. Due to its morphometric parameters, summer stratification develops in the lake. In the period analysed in the paper, the highest temperature was recorded in July 2012 (27.5°C), and the lowest at the bottom in May 2013 (4.2°C). The highest difference in temperature throughout the water column was recorded during measurements in July 2012. It amounted to 22.7°C (27.5°C at the surface and 4.8°C at the bottom). The highest mean temperature throughout the water column (determined as the mean from all of the analysed months) occurred in 2015 (9.7°C), and the lowest in 2013 (7.8°C). The highest water temperature corresponded to the highest air temperature for station Włodawa, located several kilometres north of the lake. The mean concentration of oxygen dissolved in water (as the mean from all of the analysed months) suggests that the highest value 4.7 [mgO2 ∙ dm-3] occurred in 2012, and the lowest 3.0 [mgO2 ∙ dm-3] in 2013. In vertical distribution, the maximum oxygen concentration mounted to 13.5 [mgO2 ∙ dm-3] in May 2013, and the minimum value decreased to zero multiple times. Complete lack of oxygen occurred each time in August, September, and October. It appeared the earliest in June 2013 (at a depth of 26 m), and the latest in August 2015 (at a depth of 28 m). The thickest water layer without oxygen was recorded in August 2013 already at a depth of 11 m. The studied lake is prone to strong anthropopressure. Due to favourable morphometric parameters and high resistance to degradation, however, it still maintains its high recreational values, although such a state may change in the near future in the context of increasing anthropopressure and observed climatic changes.

The paper presents the dynamics of daily water temperature fluctuations in Lake Kierskie (West Poland) and determines the effect of air temperatures and wind speed on the variability of the parameter (water temperature). The analysis was based on hourly water temperature values from the period from May 2012 to January 2018. The data analysis permitted the description of the thermal regime of waters in the lake in the hourly cycle in reference to each month, and designation of months characterised by the highest and lowest stability of water temperatures. More than half of the analysed days was characterised by a change in water temperature not exceeding 1°C. The course of water temperature showed strongly positive correlations with air temperature, and weak correlations with wind speed. Water temperatures in the lake were correlated the strongest with air temperatures with a 24 h time step.
